Have we even started interviewing yet?!
I know we want to get the right guy but man we need a steadying influence on the team right now.
I would think after 2 weeks things would be further along. Am I being impatient?

No, you’re not being impatient. The situation needs to be wrapping up in the next week or so.Elkaggie wrote:I know we want to get the right guy but man we need a steadying influence on the team right now.

Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

Even when we hired Stew, it took a month. Expect this to take at least that long.

Head coaches are rarely hired during the season. This is going to take some time.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
I don’t think you guys know how hiring new coaches works...
Hires are rarely made mid season. They may still get someone hired mid season, but they’re certainly not working slow.

It’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.
We need someone to steady the ship. We had three good players transfer this week.
Hopefully that helps.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
So had we hurried and hired someone quickly, they would not have transferred? You want to make the wrong hire to keep 3 guys?2004AG wrote:It’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
I never said that. That's a false dichotomy. I just answered the question as to why we are a little restless. Again, for the millionth time, we all agree getting the right coach is the most important thing, nobody is saying otherwise. We need to get the right coach and we need to do it fairly quick. I hope it doesn't take until December 15. In my perfect world, it would be the first of December after JH has had a chance to interview and conduct his due diligence.JonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 10:51 amSo had we hurried and hired someone quickly, they would not have transferred? A new Head Coach would not have kept Cash Gilliam here.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 10:43 amIt’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

Again, not saying that.aggies22 wrote:A new Head Coach would not have kept Cash Gilliam here.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 10:43 amIt’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

All I’m saying is we need someone to “steady the ship” a little.

Seeing which direction we are heading would make everyone feel better I think.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 11:18 amAgain, not saying that.aggies22 wrote:A new Head Coach would not have kept Cash Gilliam here.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 10:43 amIt’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
It is unlikely that the new coach will be named before seasons end. If he is currently coaching he would most likely not leave until this season is over so look for 12-15 at the earliest. Hope I'm wrong.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 11:21 amSeeing which direction we are heading would make everyone feel better I think.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 11:18 amAgain, not saying that.aggies22 wrote:A new Head Coach would not have kept Cash Gilliam here.2004AG wrote: ↑November 22nd, 2020, 10:43 amIt’s easy to understand, but you may not like the answer:JFW_AGGIES wrote:Why do you guys always hit the panic button, I just don't understand our fans sometimes.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
How about James Franklin? He might be on his way out at Penn State.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
I would be a little giddy if that were a possibility. I usually don’t like retread hires but there is something about Franklin that makes me willing to risk it.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
I would love that. I highly doubt he gets run off after one bad year though. Overall he has done pretty well at Penn State. Before this year he had a run of three 11 win seasons in four years that ended in top 10 rankings. On top of that he won at Vandy and nobody wins at Vandy. He is a great coach, although he does have some off the field concerns that might worry a prospective AD.

No need to interview. Chico is the man. I'm sure aggie fans everywhere will welcome the Brent Guy 2.0 era.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
can we even talk to coaches that are still coaching?? what permissions would need to happen for us to talk to other coaches that have jobs still?

I doubt any of the interview process will actually take place in person.

Re: Have we even started interviewing yet?!
And that's a perfectly acceptable time table.
Stew was a golden-unicorn candidate. He was a successful head coach in a larger conference (WAC vs Big West) who was willing to come to USU for what we could pay. That hire was made in a little over a month during the summer.
I doubt we have a successful PAC12 head coach who wants the job (Justin Wilcox or Jonathan Smith would probably be comparable to Stew when he was at CSU). If we did, it would still likely take a month during the offseason to get that deal done. So without a golden-unicorn candidate, or the offseason timing, it's going to take longer.
