Re: Coaching Candidates
Not to mention they are currently not coaching. I think Rich Rod was more successful and built something for longer. Helfrich seems like he road the coattails of Kelly at Oregon.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑November 8th, 2020, 8:02 amThe Helfrich and Rich Rod hires seem to me to be high risk, low reward moves for us. They seem to come with a high risk of failure (because they have failed elsewhere with more resources at their disposal), and low reward, because if successful we know either would jump ship when their image is repaired at the first opportunity that greener pastures are available.
I don’t want to be the school P5 washouts use to repair their image. Up and comers please.

Re: Coaching Candidates
I think after Gary we will be more apt to go after a coach that is motivated to prove himself at the next level. Not a sunrise like rich rod. Kind of a repeat of what Gary was.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑November 8th, 2020, 8:17 amNot to mention they are currently not coaching. I think Rich Rod was more successful and built something for longer. I agree lets get someone who is on the up not someone who was, but then fell and is trying to get back. I cant imagine there will be too many openings with covid so we may get more candidates that are interested in the job.slcagg wrote: ↑November 8th, 2020, 10:13 amI think after Gary we will be more apt to go after a coach that is motivated to prove himself at the next level. I would argue that his side of the ball has been the worst part of the team since he’s been here. So that’s a big reason for me.taniataylor wrote:Why cant Coach Maile be chosen? I dont understand.

I know a Utah high school coach very well that Frank recruits at and he says he has no personality, zero charisma. Frank is about worst case scenario.

Re: Coaching Candidates
I think he should be heavily considered. One issue is when he coached the bowl game two years ago the team was a bit undisciplined.

I don’t know frank at all. But we’ve always heard how much the players love him. Doesn’t mean it’s true or that makes him a great head coach alone. And won by about 50 points .
Re: Coaching Candidates
Is this a sarcastic comment? Frank has been one of the best recruiters we have had at USU along with Stacey Collins. I know several former and current players, their favorite coach is Frank. Also to the comments that he shouldn't be the head coach because he hasn't been hugely successful as a coordinator is ridiculous! That has zero baring on weather or not someone will be a successful head coach.2004AG wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 8:45 amBecause he stands there like a bump on a log on the sidelines.taniataylor wrote:Why cant Coach Maile be chosen? Re: Coaching Candidates
Maile has stuck it out through alot and has been passed up: he brought the team through a bowl game that we Won, by alot. He has the respect of his players and recruits. He would be the continuity that was mentioned in another post.

Re: Coaching Candidates
This is a great trait as a person. However there need to be additional traits as well which I’m not the judge of frank in that as I don’t know him. However some of the greatest coaches you may not consider a player best friend. And some of the best also have the trait you referenced.taniataylor wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:18 amJordan told me Coach Maile makes it his business to know all the players....jeffdan25 wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:04 amIs this a sarcastic comment? He's probably about in as enviable position as anyone. He gets a 5 game trial to see if he can turn the team around a litte bit with 3 of the toughest games already out of the way. If he were somehow to go on a winning streak it would be hard not to seriously consider him.

This cracks me up. Would Edwards ever be considered as HC in today's world? Yet he was an amazing HC.2004AG wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 8:45 amBecause he stands there like a bump on a log on the sidelines.taniataylor wrote:Why cant Coach Maile be chosen? I dont understand.

Re: Coaching Candidates
I’d be shocked if he got hired, I’ve listened to some of his interviews and he’s pretty immature. Plus the whole text thing is so sad, think about how much pain that caused.

Strange. I've spoken with nearly every single signee over the last two years and nearly all of them were recruited by Frank or Stacy.2004AG wrote: ↑November 9th, 2020, 9:31 amI don’t coach high school football in Utah but I know someone very well who does and he says Frank is not a good recruiter at all. There is nothing to be gained by finding a replacement in the next 5 weeks, assuming they even could. Maile will be given a chance to prove if he can do it or not with the current coaching staff. The recruits are his, no need to rebuild.

As someone who has never even put on a football helmet as part of a team, let alone played high level D1 football, how much overlap is there in the duties of a coordinator vs a head coach?

Too soon, especially if the rumors about the divisions within the locker room are true.
