Frank may be a better head coach than he is a coordinator.
Lets see if he can salvage the season, it's not likely with what he has been handed, but we'll see.

Because he stands there like a bump on a log on the sidelines.

I know a Utah high school coach very well that Frank recruits at and he says he has no personality, zero charisma. Frank is about worst case scenario.

Finding some random exception from 40 years ago, doesn’t make the point you think it does.

Is this a sarcastic comment? Frank has been one of the best recruiters we have had at USU along with Stacey Collins. I know several former and current players, their favorite coach is Frank. Also to the comments that he shouldn't be the head coach because he hasn't been hugely successful as a coordinator is ridiculous! That has zero baring on weather or not someone will be a successful head coach.
Jordan told me Coach Maile makes it his business to know all the players....
Ouch. Quite an indictment of GA 2.0, especially where that was alway's GA's forte. Yikes!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I don't know Frank Maile or even know that much about him, but to me, that would feel like we are settling for low-hanging fruit. Sort of like Tim Duryea. The chances that the very best candidate for the job is already on our staff doesn't strike me as terribly likely.

Do a national search and come up with the best hire we can. I don't see any reason we would need to stay within the Aggie family. Someone in the Air-Raid coaching tree would give us an offense that would be a lot of fun to watch.

Being a great Aggie doesn’t make him a great coach.

A lot of teams just call these athletes QB's, but it does seem important to make the distinction considering our current state of affairs

I think our receivers will show their quality if the ball gets near them. I was amazed at both qbs lack of accuracy the last game.

Strange. I've spoken with nearly every single signee over the last two years and nearly all of them were recruited by Frank or Stacy.
That might be true but probably has more to do with quantity rather than quality.

my interactions with him have given me a completely different take. I will say that between him and his wife he is definitely the low key

No Mike MacIntyre. It already didn't work out with one guy who left in 2012 but then failed at a big school. And certainly consider Jeff Grimes, but no Ilaisa Tuiaki. He is a nice guy, but BYU fans would WANT us to hire away him which means we shouldn't.

A couple years ago I was flying out of Salt Lake and was in line next to Weber, the old O-line coach and Frank. Weber couldnt' have been more friendly and engaging. Frank sat there with a blank look on his face for 20 minutes.

My opinion on Frank has more to do with the head coach of a Utah high school team that Frank recruits at. This coach thinks Frank sucks at recruiting (my words, not his, but paraphrasing)

Frank just completely reminds me of Duryea. Long time Aggie assistant with zero personality. :noidea:

The Frank situation will work itself over the next few weeks. I would think the team would have to show much more than just a pulse for Frank to get serious consideration.

I just want to be another voice to echo that Frank is a fantastic person with a fun personality. I've played basketball with him and he knows how to have a good time (passes too much and shoots too little though). I've heard him teach Sunday school. He's got a great heart. He is on the quiet side, but, he cares about people. Now, I can totally see someone thinking that a quieter personality isn't as good at recruiting as a loud/flambuyont personality. He is more like a quiet giant. But, to each there own :noidea: Some personalities work for some recruits and other personalities work for other recruits.

I do think he'd be a great head coach as long as he has great assistants (that's pretty much true for all HCs though).

lmao  Yes, if we can only somehow get over that little issue of currently having four felony counts of blackmail, four felony counts of identity theft and two misdemeanor counts of criminal false communication against him.

Didn't he get caught posing as a attorney too?

Is this a sarcastic comment? Frank has been one of the best recruiters we have had at USU along with Stacey Collins. I know several former and current players, their favorite coach is Frank. Also to the comments that he shouldn't be the head coach because he hasn't been hugely successful as a coordinator is ridiculous! That has zero baring on weather or not someone will be a successful head coach.
I don’t coach high school football in Utah but I know someone very well who does and he says Frank is not a good recruiter at all. FWIW.

Strange. I've spoken with nearly every single signee over the last two years and nearly all of them were recruited by Frank or Stacy.
That might be true but probably has more to do with quantity rather than quality.

Out of curiosity have you ever spoken to Frank directly ?
my interactions with him have given me a completely different take. I will say that between him and his wife he is definitely the low key

:noidea:
All this great info from Gary’s biggest fan when Wells left.
What the hell does this even mean?

Curt Cignetti - Head Coach @ JMU.

Coached with Saban at Alabama also spent time @ NC State and Pitt too. Has had success everywhere he has been.

Recruited: Russell Wilson, Dont'a Hightower
Coached: Phillip Rivers, Julio Jones

JMU is a power house team in the FCS. They used to play the Grizz for the FCS NC, and now they play NDSU.

else:

Jay Hill...

Unless we're willing to pay up to the tune of 1.3-1.7 for talent- we aren't going to get the up and coming coordinators. Cignetti would be the best FCS coach we could get.

Because he stands there like a bump on a log on the sidelines.

I know a Utah high school coach very well that Frank recruits at and he says he has no personality, zero charisma. Frank is about worst case scenario.

I love Frank, but to say that being successful as coordinator is not a prerequisite of getting a head coach is a little out of line. Not saying Frank would not be successful, but if Hartwell hired a coordinator from another program that was not successful in his current role this board would sh$$ their pants. I trust Hartwell will make the right decision in my opinion Frank is not that man. That being said if Frank went 3-2 in the rest of the games my opinion would change.

If we hired Cignetti, he would have a goal to give Nick Saban his first blemish against his former assistants, which would then be talked about leading up to EVERY meeting against Georgia and Ole Miss. More likely, he would add another one to his win column in that category.

Everyone really likes Maile. I've never heard a bad thing about him. However, it needs to be a business decision.

If it weren't for Tipa, Jordan Love and Woodward- we'd have had some very bad teams. (That's not to say that there weren't and aren't good players apart from those 3- there are several)

If Maile is the best person for the job, then he should get the job. But I really think the best person for the job is someone who is currently a successful head coach- and that is likely to be an FCS coach. Entz, Hill, Cignetti. (No to Hauk for obvious reasons)
