I know a lot of you hate me because I trolled the choo choo once or twice, but those who actually know me will tell you I’m actually a good dude.
I choo choo’d you here today to have some real talk about our current football situation.
Here’s the way I see it: we have a coach who was brought in at the behest of our biggest donor. This donor deserves the deference given to him to bring in this hire. But there are clear indications that the hire isn’t going to work out. The 0-3 start with pathetic statistics is possibly the least of the problems we could have if we had competent journalists to look into things. (Not counting aggies22, he kicks (I can't express myself without swearing), I’m talking about the hard news folks).
What I would like to ask is where do we go from here? As I see it there are three paths/options:
1) The staff turns things around and salvages this season
2) Hartwell collects the ammo he needs to fire GA
3) we accept mediocrity and take a 2-6 or worse season and roll it into another two win season next year.
If you actually know me you know I want this team to succeed and I put my money where my mouth is. But my god is this coaching staff hateable. What do we do guys?

Hope he walks away, it’s our only hope, and it would be the right thing to do

The staph isn’t turning this around and we don’t have the money to fix this unless Laub ponies up to fix it so I guess we only have option 3.
Of course, he might bail or get fired for cause...

Given the economic situation, Gary is not getting fired.
As for where we go from here. It all depends on Gary's contract. I don't know how much or how long he's contracted. We aren't a program that can afford to pay coaches for NOT coaching our team. That's probably especially true after COIVID has beat the crap out of our budget. Unless Laub is willing to accept his mistake and pay for it himself, we may be stuck.
In other words, we may not have any choice but to watch and hope these guys can turn things around.

I'm sad, but have pretty much resigned myself to more of the same for at least another season after this one, and who knows how long after that. Seems it's always our fate.
And it proves yet again that you really can't go home again.

What folks need to understand is Jim has been asked his opinion on every coaching hire we have made for some time now, that is not a dumb thing to do, without him and Sir Stan we would be in deep trouble, like not being in the MWC
I'm not sure what happened behind closed doors but we ended up with G.A. which to me seems to have been a good hire, because a big problem at USU is the constant change in football staff, like 3 different O coordinators in 3 seasons, head coach's leave as soon as they have success. The thought was G.A. might be a Stew type of hire.
Gary will be here through the 2021 season because we do not have the fan's that will buy out his contract, also if you search for a new coach firing one after 2 seasons would make me concerned about applying at USU. So good or bad that is what it is.
I just read a piece from a friend that is talking about the suites that will be available in the RES $80 million dollar expansion, the first priority will be given to those 22 that have given at least $1 million to the program. With that kind of money you can payout what is needed to hire or fire We can not do that.

My opinion on hiring Jay hill is mixed, we have hired a former Weber state coach which was a disaster, with that said Jay may be ok if G.A. fails next season, but he will need time to build a program , also Jay was not the first choice of Hartwell for the job last time out.
Choo is a good guy for sure.
Yeah I mean Gary was a very popular hire. I was skeptical and wasn't a fan, but it seemed most of the board did. There were a lot of excited people December of 2018. People were calling for him to be brought back several years before that. There was even a thread where people were mad at Matt Wells because supposedly he didn't choose to bring Gary in as a consultant after Gary quit Oregon State. I wish I could bump some of those threads, but they lock old threads on here. Maybe that is a good thing.

Allowing one influential donor to make hiring/firing decisions rarely works out well.

I don't know that said donor made the decision. But there is nothing wrong with seeking their input. Happens in the corporate world all the time.
I think it is pretty clear that rAggie had an inkling something was coming. This sentence is quite telling:
