I'm confused by your take. Slow linebackers? Metz is not super quick but Henniger is and is super twitchy, and Gilliam is a former safety who can run and was a run support style safety. AJ got thrown in as a true freshman in a game we were completely depleted at the LB spot and he had to learn on the fly. From the look of this depth chart we will be in a 3-3-5 as our base defense. you are not asking your linebackers to cover in space with 5 DB's on the field.

The defense certainly fits the personell better this year. Henninger is going to have a really good year I think. Hopefully Gilliam on the inside gives them a bit more speed. The D line is a complete unknown. Lets see how they handle the Donks front before panicking. The move back to the 3-4 will really allow Bond to be a playmaker and do a few different things. I hope Legefed has worked on tacklng technique a bit. He dropped his head like he wanted to make a bit hit every play and usually whiffed. He looke athletic enough to help

We'll see. Gotta be better than the (I can't express myself without swearing) last year.

I said I liked Henniger. I can accept the Gilliam stuff from you. I can't recall how well he read pass vs. run. That will be critical in his position. The others are pretty slow. They can't cover sideline-to-sideline due to poor angles and lack of speed. I'm just stating my opinion. I hope I am wrong.

Yeah the speed was apparent as soon as we lost David. Not sure we can pinpoint on only one guy but that’s what I noticed (with my limited talent in spotting these things). That’s why I was hoping the young guys would step up. Gilliam was also banged up so hopefully he helps improve this.

I didn’t think Shelton was slow.

Shelton looked really slow and bad to me last year. Everybody abused him. Part of it we didn't have true D-ends and he had to take on a lot of lead blockers with a head of steam and try to get outside.

It's going to be a ride. A shorter ride than usual, but a ride nonetheless.

A big surprise to me is Heneli (Avendano) Bloomfield.
He goes from rotating at LG last year (and starting a couple games) and being presumed by essentially everyone to start at LG this season, to no mention in the depth chart at all.
Surprised to see Jackson Owens mentioned at LG if Koch ends up starting LT. Love when we have young guys step up.

Heneli tore his ACL in April and had surgery in May. He is out for the season.

Well, I’m going to take the optimistic approach and say it means the defense is better than it looks on paper and both units will be fine.

But it could also mean that the offense is going through scheme change growing pains and we are in for a rough first few weeks, if not a rough season.

Guess we’ll have a good idea which it is in a few days!

The loss of Shaw the Elder and Bloomfield hurts us on the inside on the oline. With that said I like the guys we have along that line still.

One young guy I'm looking forward to seeing his development and I've been high on is Dom Tatum. Excited to see how much he has improved as I feel he has a high ceiling.

Love listening to Shaq on the video above! Not many people are going to be beat us with speed sideline to sideline. Way faster than last year. Super interesting.

Also looking forward to seeing Shelley on the field. You can tell he's got a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. Can't wait to get on the bus!

For weeks now we've heard Pailate Makakona's name pop up by the coaches when discussing the RB depth chart. I was a little skeptical considering he transferred in from Colorado-Mesa but here he sits at 3rd position on the depth chart, right behind our two acclaimed veterans (Warren & DHC) and ahead of our stud freshmen (Gentry and Noa). I watched his HS senior season highlights and the kid's got some talent. Possesses great vision, balance, quickness, shifty, power, and decent speed. Reminds me a lot of Warren to be honest. Not sure the details behind his voyage to get here but I'm happy for him and hope he plays with that chip on his shoulder and makes some solid contributions. He's the kind of blue collar, under recruited, chip on shoulder, and tough nosed kid that Gary likes.

Does anyone know, is Keegan Duncan still working his way back from injury?

He is not practicing but still has spot on the team from what I have been told.

If there's one thing Gary Andersen is good at, it's at producing high effort and creative defenses.

That was what he was good at as a D coordinator and when he had Aranda. Count me skeptical after he sanctioned the disaster that turned one of the highest takeaway D's in the country into a laugningstock and tried to turn one of the conference's best edge rushers into a down lineman. I believe it when I see it. Outside his Aranda coordinated Ds in 2012 here and at Wisky he has not had a really good defense. The 2011 D was stacked with future NFL guys and was average.

Count me in the show me category at this point.

He did coordinate some pretty great defenses at Utah.

Coaches show Troy Lefeged is currently injured. Could play this week or might be a few weeks.

Koch is starting at LG this week.

Aj v is playing more from the outside I think.

Gary sounds very high on zahodri Jackson.

Can tell he is concerned with linebackers.

Seems high in McGriff. Just wants to see it on game day.

The previous coaching staff was VERY high on Zahodri. If he can stay healthy he'll have a good season.

Remember him being highly recruited and coaching connections made it so he chose usu.

Carson Terrell said right now he plans on coming back next season.

Missing Lefeged would really hurt. Hope he can go on Saturday.
