Any chance for MWC football this fall

Post by brownjeans » September 10th, 2020, 10:12 am

Any chance they'll reverse course and hold football this fall?
Are the teams lifting weights and doing any training?
Is there enough time to do an 8-game schedule starting in October?

There should be, last year our last 8 games started on Oct 5th. With a bye week in there, we finished on Nov. 30th. If they're willing to extend that into December a couple of weeks, we would have plenty of flexibility in scheduling if any cases do derail things. Let's play!

Thanks for sharing Roy. So disappointing especially as it now looks like they should have waited to cancel.

That is too bad Roy. I wish they would keep trying like you kept trying to hit that final shot on the 18th hole on the last day of the US Open. You eventually made the shot. Hopefully we'll eventually have football.

Unless MWC decided to let teams play without the CA teams being in the mix, there is zero chance. The CA system also just announced that classes will be all virtual through Spring 2021, which puts the MWC basketball season in jeopardy also.

Yesterday, Wilner said that the new daily testing contract the Pac12 got might enable them to have a fall season, but pointed out that, in order to comply with NCAA regs, they apparently wouldn't be able to start games until probably around Thanksgiving. I don't what all those regs are to which he referred.

I'm not sure how that translates to the MWC, but it seems like maybe a similar timeframe might be possible if the conference is willing to do daily testing of athletes.

Y'all need to stop talking about "testing changes" this and "late fall" that. Roy seems to be hearing the same things that I am hearing, and that is a zero percent chance of fall football.

I wish we'd just move on. No reason we all need to live by California's crazy rules. Nobody cares when a label says that something is known to the state of California to cause cancer. Now it should just say "Football is known to the state of California to cause COVID-19" and we should all just go about our lives.

I am holding out hope that there will be some sort of season!
