Any guesses as to why?

Baylor La Tech you mean? It looks like La Tech had an outbreak. That is going to happen from time to time. They are doing the right thing to postpone the game. It doesn't mean everything should shutdown.

That article is six weeks old and the reason is the SEC decided to only play conference games. Is that what you were talking about? Seems odd to bring up now.

It's all about spreading the fear.

I think there has been more fear spread than coronavirus.

According to reports on this board Baylor could have possibly been playing Is this weekend. Too bad.

We need to get a better understanding of what all of these positive tests for COVID-19 really are.

Forgive me for posting this a second time (I posed this in the Sandbox the other day). Test sensibilities are up to 1,000 times too sensitive. We are detecting remnants of the virus in healthy, non-contagious persons that have died in that person some time ago and calling them positive tests. The result is inflated (and ever growing) positive test results being reported and fear being spread.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/09/07/ ... sensitive/

From the NY Times article quoted in the piece:

The technical point is that:

“The PCR test amplifies genetic matter from the virus in cycles; the fewer cycles required, the greater the amount of virus, or viral load, in the sample. The greater the viral load, the more likely the patient is to be contagious.” “This number of amplification cycles needed to find the virus, called the cycle threshold, is never included in the results sent to doctors and coronavirus patients, although it could tell them how infectious the patients are.” “On Thursday, the United States recorded 45,604 new coronavirus cases, according to a database maintained by The Times. If the rates of contagiousness in Massachusetts and New York were to apply nationwide, then perhaps only 4,500 of those people may actually need to isolate and submit to contact tracing.” [ NY Times article ]

The New York Times math wizards have under-stated the over-estimation. If Dr. Mina is correct, the number of people who may need to isolate or submit to contact tracing could be as small as 45 of those 45,604 – 1,000 times less than the total reported.

The current number of PCR amplification cycles needed to report a Positive Test is 40.

Any test with a cycle threshold above 35 is too sensitive, agreed Juliet Morrison, a virologist at the University of California, Riverside. “I’m shocked that people would think that 40 could represent a positive,” she said.

Dr. Morrison stated that “A more reasonable cutoff would be 30 to 35.” Dr. Mina said he would set the figure at 30, or even less.

The article is an interesting, and important, read for those wanting to understand the real threat and the true story behind the positive test numbers being thrown around in the media. News folks don't always give the entire story, if you can believe that.

That’s too bad. With every story like that, you hear of numbers like this. Schedule and play the games and be smart about it.

Not so shocking actually, as long as plans and practicals are in place, it's certainly manageable. Business as usual on the other hand, would have been a disaster.

So it turns out that all we needed after all was a paper mask and to wash our hands and we could have avoided 7 months of this nightmare?

No, more like limiting the number of fans in the stands, constant testing of the athletes, not allowing large groups to co-mingle when entering the stadium, on-line ticket sales only, and all the other precautions now being taken from the local level on up.

You know... PLANNING

Yes, let’s mock those idiots who wash their hands after taking a piss or using the crapper. Stupid morons thinking that is necessary to reduce the spread of germs. In fact, let’s boycott such a dumb idea and smear poop particles on food that we share with each other, as that would be safe. Additionally, every time we cough, sneeze, or breath, we should get within 1 inch of someone else’s face and don’t cover up. There are no germs that could possibly be transferred because our bodies are strong. Droplets, spit, and snot are just imaginary things that don’t exist, and if they did exist, they would clearly be germ free. Who is with me on this? :joking:

Sounds like they had a good protocol in place for protecting the athletes then the hurricane came through the things broke down. In other words - the kids had a lower infection risk when they had football, the risks increased when football was paused due to the hurricane.

You'll have to mock them on your own, if you like. I don't think anyone here is mocking them.
