Packers QB depth chart

Post by DeltaSigAggie » September 8th, 2020, 10:40 am

Jordan Love is listed as 3rd on the depth chart behind a 2nd yr undrafted QB out of Eastern Kentucky.... 👀👀👀

Not a good look for Love...

Yeah Cowherd was talking the other day about how Jordan Love has not been living up to expectations in practice. Good he is in a position where he can learn and improve for a few years instead of being thrown into the fire.

Without the benefit of off-season workouts, not living up to expectations in practice is probably not a big concern right now.

Agreed. The Packers aren't concerned; Rogers was #3 on the depth chart his rookie year also. And he had all the workouts, etc.

I have followed the packers really closely this training camp. Every report from reputable packers sources has said that the coaches and management are happy with his progress and potential. They feel that he just had a million things thrown at him in 3 weeks ( new footwork, playbook, etc..). The main critique from the head coach was that he needs to relax and let it loose more. We know he is capable of that. The packers seem to know it too. The plan with Jordan was never to have him ready for season 1. They have Aaron Rodgers and the Pack has historically been one of the best draft and develop franchises.

Cowherd and other media outlets are just butt hurt that there is no Aaron Rodgers Drama to talk about like they had hoped.

Cowherd gets his info from insiders and Love struggling has been reported by sources that have watched him practice.
Packers beat writer Matt Schneiderman had this to say about Love:
“He hasn’t fallen down the quarterback depth chart – he was already at the bottom of it."

He hasn't been good so far. That is ok, he has plenty of time to get better. I am glad he isn't somewhere where he is expected to start 16 games as a rookie.

All of the negative articles were before the last couple of days of camp and the final scrimmage.

https://www.packersnews.com/story/sport ... 442274001/

Love was dealt an impossible hand with COVID restrictions and a short camp with no preseason. Add to that all the criticism the packers front office and coach took over the pick and the negative publicity. He had a normal rookie start learning an entirely new system with limited reps. If he has a bad camp and preseason next year then there would be cause for concern.

The criticism I’ve seen was what was mentioned.

Insufficient decisiveness is more likely (in my view) an attribute of finally being able to see nfl plays full speed while under center- with maybe a little rust and new job nerves as opposed to being a bust.

I never heard that Love was unprepared. I never heard that Love showed up out of shape or lost arm strength.

I think Love looks just fine so far. He should be proud of his accomplishment as should his friends and family. The people that look bad are the people jumping to the conclusion that he’s a failure and rooting for him to fail because they are upset the packers didn’t pick a WR. (Maybe If Rodgers took less like Brady, he’d have a better receiving corps)

I love when guys get the opportunity to work their way up. There is a valuable lesson in business and sports that the guy behind you is really good at what they do and is working their tail off to take over.

Love is right where the Packers expected him to be, with no mini-camps or organized team activities leading up to training camp. So him being 3rd on the depth chart is not unexpected. He is a developmental QB and they are treating him like one!

His job is to watch, learn and execute in practices over the next maybe two years-- just like Aaron Rodgers did under Brett Favre. He's got one of the GOAT's for a mentor, and a coach who is very interested in getting him where he needs to be. Jordan Love will be just fine.

It took about two years in the program here at USU to get Jordan where he needed to be. There's nothing wrong if it takes Jordan around the same amount of time to grow into his role in the NFL.

On the bright side, J-Love did play well in his last scrimmage. Especially in the two minute drill.

The thing most people are freaking out is the fact that the Packers currently have an undrafted rookie out of Eastern Kentucky ahead of Love on the depth chart. This same QB also had to deal with all the factors of no mini camps, team activities, etc.

Which is more relevant: That the current QB2, Tim Boyle, was an undrafted rookie out of Eastern Kentucky? Or that he has two full years experience with the Packers? Why are people freaking out that the Packers would have an experienced backup if Rodgers goes down?

Nobody here knows anything.

In third on the depth chart keeps Love away from the hellsapoppin' pass rush till he knows what the h€ll he's doing.

Wasn't the Eastern Kentucky guy with the team last year? Granted he didn't play much, but would have an entire season learning the offense. I might be mistaken. Either way, I don't think it's a big deal for a rookie with no preseason to be 3rd string and to struggle a bit given the circumstances.

The 2020 season will be Tim Boyle's third season in the league.

Ah yes, my bad. I guess misinterpreted an article I had read. Thanks for the correction.

So just to be clear, JLove is third right now. He is also the only rookie QB. He is behind Aaron Rodgers and a third year QB who went undrafted from Eastern Kentucky.
