Re: Football tix refund
Students can opt out of that fee at any time, even when sports are being played.

Re: Football tix refund
From what I have heard, you have to go to the comptroller and request for them to be removed. Obviously, this removes your ability to attend events using your card.sam tingey wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 10:59 amreally?? I never was able to get out of any fees when I was in school.

I tried that and I was told nope to removing any fees. I was told it was the price to attend the university.treesap32 wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 11:07 amFrom what I have heard, you have to go to the comptroller and request for them to be removed. I guess one should decide on what cost are involved in attending any University, and make the choice as to its overall value. I do not know what value a education at USU is worth but given the lack of support alums give one wonders if it is a good value.sam tingey wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 11:59 amI tried that and I was told nope to removing any fees. Re: Football tix refund
The only person I ever knew who was able to opt out of the athletics fee was married to a full time university employee. He was able to opt out of basically every fee but wasn't allowed to use a lot of things (ARC, sports, health services, etc.)sam tingey wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 11:59 amI tried that and I was told nope to removing any fees. Re: Football tix refund
Good points, but COVID and the apparent health risks associated with it, both short and long term, are not "inherent" risks to football, such as would be broken limbs and concussions, which, by the way, do, in limited circumstances, produce lawsuits if it can be shown that the university did not act prudently with respect to those risks. Personally, I think with reasonable and science based protocols to distance, control infection and the spread of infection, along with the player's documented understanding of the risk associated with COVID and the right to opt out without repercussion, would be more than enough to stave off litigation. However, with other conferences cancelling, and thereby creating a reasonable alternative to playing, the die have been cast, and a possible "standard" has been born against which all other behavior may be measured. Also, the MWC may have simply determined that the logistics and costs of playing, along with the loss of money games and the risk of having to cancel a season after incurring the costs of starting a season, no fans and no game day concessions revenue, etc., made the decision easier. That's all I can think of.Chupamedia wrote: ↑August 12th, 2020, 2:03 pmWhat about the kids that are attending the University for an education? Why are they ok to attend, but playing a sport is suddenly the most dangerous thing? Are they going to sue if they get sick? How about the kid that plays pre-COVID and has a life-changing injury, or heaven forbid, dies - they are not suing the university for those injuries. There is an inherent risk to life and death is one of those risks. Death by coronavirus for a college football player would be in the lowest of risks when comparing what other risks these athletes are taking on each time they walk onto the field.BigBlueBlood wrote: ↑August 12th, 2020, 11:23 amSimple: if you can afford it, please donate. If you can't, get a refund. We don't know how our guys voted, but it was a collective decision of the conference members. Personally, I think the risks of playing vs. not playing are sixes and they should play, but if a kid gets COVID at home and gets really sick, or heaven forbid, dies-- no lawsuit. If the same happens while playing--lawsuit, which will far eclipse any donated monies.

Even if you didn't do those things after having graduated, do you really "owe" the university anything after you had paid tuition for the education you received?sam tingey wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 1:23 pmWell excuse me for being a poor student trying to graduate without any debt. I don't know.
I do know that my Junior and Senior years I got a partial tuition scholarship from the College of Humanities.
Since having the means, I give to the College of Humanities scholarship fund every year so that other students get the same benefit that I was able to get.

No, I don't think owe any of those people/institutions other than what your charged/taxed for services rendered. You may want to give, but that's not the same thing as owing. Just my opinion.Sl7vk wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 1:44 pmWell, this is a world view type of thing. Do you owe your family anything? Your spouse? Your children?
I feel there are credits that I have been given over the course of my life that I am obligated to repay in some fashion or another even if it isn't contractual or even implied.
Re: Football tix refund
Very disappointing to me that no one at USU was fighting for a season. Listened to Gary on 1280 a couple of days ago. He said the he was an advocate for NOT playing. If college kids are on campus, college kids should be allowed their activities - classes, dances, labs, concerts and, yes, football. I have been a season ticket holder for several years and would have liked to see our people fight for a season.
I love football. I loved playing it. I love watching it in person. I love watching it on TV.
I have been forced into something I never thought I’d have to do. Mrs FireAgs kid is a zoobie so we will probably switch allegiance for this year (at least). At least they are fighting to play. I wish we had that kind of backbone.

Re: Football tix refund
To make my point clear I did find it unusual to try and get fees removed from Tuition, maybe just me, but I would not do that.
USU students are charged a lot for athletics, and the reason for that would be ? The university spends IMHO to much money to keep athletics going. Why is that needed ?
I will really upset folks with my belief that USU is trying to be a FBS school with FCS fan support. We have the smallest stadium of any FBS school in the western U.S. and no need to add anymore seating. It is the size of several MAC schools stadiums which people believe is a FBS conference which is really a FCS grouping.
As far a owing the University anything after graduation of course not, but of course your tuition did not cover the cost of your education. Many people give back because of pride in their school others never have that pride.
If folks give back to their school good for them, if not well that kind of proves what I have said. If you believe that aggie alums and the Logan people give back enough than that is ok I just kind of doubt that.

WCC of which YBU is a member will not be playing fall sports this season, How hard did they fight to play these sports in the fall. If you are a member of a conference they form policy which is the direction they follow. I wonder why YBU just fell in line ?FireAg wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 2:34 pmVery disappointing to me that no one at USU was fighting for a season. Listened to Gary on 1280 a couple of days ago. I didn’t know that but I get it. Maybe BYU didn’t try very hard for non- football sports, but it looks to me like they’re trying awful hard to play football. And, let’s face it, the only thing that’s drives passion for sports fans is football and, to a lesser extent, men’s basketball. The overwhelming majority of us have no idea (and don’t care) what is going on with other sports. I like football.
It looks to me like BYU is trying extremely hard to play football this fall. And we’re not.

Re: Football tix refund
Think about this, why would USU not want to play football this fall ? Now that the pac-12, Big Sky are not going to play who would be willing to come to Logan for a game ? John Hartwell would have given anything for football this fall USU. faces a huge problem which. As I understand it we had 30 players test positive for the virus, The B-10 has a concern about heart problems with a number of kids that tested positive. I'm not sure I view those pushing to play football in this climate in a good light at all.FireAg wrote: ↑August 13th, 2020, 5:31 pmI didn’t know that but I get it. Re: Football tix refund
I didn't renew my season tickets for 2 reasons:
1- It was obvious since at least June that this season wasn't going to take place as our country and citizens have made the decision to double down in our unified discord and contempt for each other.
2- I've been losing over $1,000/ month in income ever since March 10 when shutdowns began so the pocketbook has been forced to close.

I want to play as much as anyone, but it didnt happen this year. I am not going to get after gary or the president. With the political enviornment in nevada, hawaii, nm, ca, and colorado it was unfortunate but they were going to cancel.

I’ll help you out. We have to work with our conference mates they don’t. It’s the same reason they can try to play football but can’t try to play basketball.

Yeah, I understand the difference between being in a conference and not. If was extremely disappointing to me to hear Gary - and by extension the administration- say he was an ADVOCATE for shutting down. I would like someone, anyone, to say that we were doing everything possible to play, it’s just that our conference or our number positive tests or won’t allow us. I would feel Somewhat better if Gary had said we wanted to play - we just can’t.

Maybe Gary is doing the right thing by shutting it down? Have we thought about that perhaps?FireAg wrote: ↑August 14th, 2020, 7:32 amYeah, I understand the difference between being in a conference and not.

I was glad to hear Gary and the administration put the kids first. They are most important to me, too.Sl7vk wrote: ↑August 14th, 2020, 8:14 amMaybe Gary is doing the right thing by shutting it down? While disappointing that we won't have a season, this is no reason to change allegiance even if for one year. BYU sucks no matter what!FireAg wrote: ↑August 14th, 2020, 7:32 amYeah, I understand the difference between being in a conference and not. I Love cheering for USU! I also Love cheering against YBU. A guy can love more than one thing, right?ususports wrote: ↑August 14th, 2020, 11:46 amWhile disappointing that we won't have a season, this is no reason to change allegiance even if for one year.
