OHIO STATE TO THE SEC?

Post by Machismo » August 10th, 2020, 3:10 pm

If the big10 is scared to play why not?

Buckeyes junior linebacker Teradja Mitchell wants to know if the SEC would allow Ohio State to join the party for 2020. OSU wide receivers coach Brian Hartline says he’s in and adds, “our players deserve the opportunity to choose whether they play or don’t play. We will play anyone, anywhere. We don’t care who it is.”

You want to talk about the ultimate way to get the attention of B1G presidents? The drumbeat, however unlikely it is to happen, of Ohio State to the SEC. We’re in the middle of very weird times, but it seems like just when you don’t think something can happen, it happens. Did you think the Marlins would be a 1/2 game out of first and the Cardinals would have played five games when the Braves have played 17?

Be careful before you think Ohio State to the SEC could never happen. President Trump is throwing his support behind a 20-year-old quarterback’s movement and Ohio State fans are openly agreeing with Jim Harbaugh’s call for a season. Weird times, buckle up.

Thanks for sharing. A glimmer of hope here. Sounds like the sec is open to other teams joining for 1 year to make this work. Cmon Utah state apply for admission :).

Nebraska head football coach Scott Frost spoke to the media today. He essentially said that while he hopes the team plays a Big Ten schedule, if the conference opts out then they’re up for grabs:

Media rights would be an absolute mess. The big 10 only approves it if they can get good money in the deal. Plus it only takes a handful of "if i can't play you can't play" to block it. I think it would be fun but I don't expect anything to happen there.

This is what I don't understand about the argument for proceeding with college and high school seasons. What does the phrase "our players deserve the opportunity to play", or "our seniors deserve to have their senior year" or whatever even mean? Why does anyone "deserve" anything? Did they sign a contract guaranteeing a senior year? Did they pay money to the league that sponsors the games and are not getting what they paid for in return? Or did they just put in a lot of time to get themselves in great shape and in the meantime got their school paid for?

This is the first positive argument for why there will be football (at least at the P5 level) Universities are refusing to back down. You really think the Big 10 will refuse to play if it means losing their crown jewels? I figured this would happen. We'll get a P5 season, but nobody else.
