Well that sucks.

Anyone know whether this was decided before Shelley or because of Shelley?

I can't help but think that the locker room will be divided a bit by this sequence of events.

Way to throw a bomb in your own locker room GA. I'm sort of hoping the season is cancelled or moved now....this team is going to need some time to figure out what the hell they are.

100% because of.
If so, it seems awful shortsighted on the part of the coaching staff. I am not one who thinks that players should be coddled or given unearned guarantees, but doing what appears to be recruiting over someone that already looks good could be a dumb move. I don’t think we **needed** another QB. Now we lost the one in the hand, if you will.

I guess I'm not sure what the point of having Gary Andersen as a coach is if this is how players are going to be treated.

The locker room is already a mess for other reasons pertaining to a certain previous tweet scandal. I'd get out too.

That said, I think Shelley is as good as Columbi and I also think we'll suck this year.

I hope that the next time he talks to the media that someone puts the screws to him and ask him what he think is accomplishing with such crap personnel decisions.

Chemistry between a QB and his WR/RB/OL is crucial to the success of an offense. We just pushed out the guy that has been throwing routes to our receivers for 3 years and brought in a guy that has a few weeks to get up to speed. This type of thing does not usually turn out well. :headscratch: :bangwall:

Well I guess that Henry, and or the staff did not think he was as good as Shelley, maybe they both thought that.

The most popular player on the team is the backup Q.B. as far as the fans go. Noone here know just how good Henry would have been, because he only played as a mop up Q.B.

Gary hasn’t been honest to the Colombi’s ever since he got here. This transfer is more about integrity than it is playing time.

The other thing is that Coach Colombi seems well connected in his neck of the woods. He could have been an incredible recruiting asset for years to come. Bridge burned, it appears.

I honestly believe that in a vacuum there is not much difference between Colombi and Shelley as far as production. The real problem comes in how this move affects the rest of the team though and how they produce as a group now. I guess I don't see the value in the risk versus reward with this decision.

Shelly is going to have to be materially better than Colombi for this to not be a net negative. Lots of pressure on him now too. Colombi has been loyal and a great teammate (by all accounts). Tough spot for him.

The interesting thing is that when Matt Wells was here, there were so many posts on this board suggesting that the locker room was divided because people thought he was insincere and fake. I do have to say that it is disappointing to hear how Gary handled this situation.

The tough part in speculating and making any real judgements is we have incomplete information. None of us are in the locker room or know for sure how Colombi has performed in practice and if he’d be better than Shelley. Based on the information we do have I am troubled. A few things we know
-Colombi did it the right way. Patiently waited and improved behind Myers then Love. Didn’t gripe or complain, just worked
-Didn’t transfer when he could’ve after Love broke out in 2018
-Seems to be well liked and respected by his teammates

I get all the “May the best player win” stuff, but I just don’t understand the move here by Gary. This maybe a bad heuristic on my part, but Shelley looks like a more athletic Kent Myers to me.

So you were there for all conversations between the staff, and Henry, also keep in mind that Bodie Reeder is part of the equation.

Well said. Shelley isn't better than HC in the first place, and now Gary has brought into play chemistry and team locker room issues.
