Ivy League cancels fall sports
Ivy League, which as you know is a league of inferior minds, has cancelled all sports through at least January.
I'd bet quite a bit that we don't see college sports this next calendar year.

Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
The Ivy League has the freedom to make such a decision since they’re built on their educational superiority, (and some would say own perceived political prowess and vanguarding as well); while the FBS would suffer substantially! However, it’s still too early to determine with finality what the FBS will or should consider. (Skies not fallen yet; panic and monkey-see/monkey-do should not rule the day)...
There are several avenues to explore such as even moving the college football season to the spring, shortening the schedule to conference opponents only, regional shifting or play-only and even limiting fan attendance, etc. (Safety precautions galore could be implemented for this to maybe work!) This is America; we can send folks to the moon - can't cooler and less media-doom doom doom based reporting and minds prevail and make this all work somehow maybe...or at leas have two-way discussions!

Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
This is just the first domino to fall. Everyone keeps saying that it doesn't effect FBS football...which it doesn't directly but they also other sports until January. The Myrtle Beach Invitational that our basketball team is scheduled to play in was supposed to include Penn but now they won't be able to play in it.

Is basketball considered a fall sport? I thought I read that they were going to reevaluate a schedule for hoops later?ProvoAggie wrote: ↑July 8th, 2020, 4:25 pmThis is just the first domino to fall. Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
The Ivy League said they won't consider competing in any sports until at the earliest January 1. So while Basketball isn't exclusively a fall sport, the Ivy League won't play any games in 2020 for the 20/21 season. They may yet play beginning in January, but haven't made a plan yet.aggies22 wrote: ↑July 8th, 2020, 5:10 pmIs basketball considered a fall sport? Yep, I’m afraid this will start an unfortunate trend. I will continue to be optimistic, but it’s not looking good. Sad state of affairs.

Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
Ivy League has been the most aggressive in shutting down everything including class. I hope this doesn’t start a trend, but everyone is clamoring to look as competent as Ivy League

Yes, that’s exactly the problem.Chupamedia wrote: ↑July 8th, 2020, 6:06 pmIvy League has been the most aggressive in shutting down everything including class. I hope this doesn’t start a trend, but everyone is clamoring to look as competent as Ivy League

Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
He's just been the messenger we need to not shoot. And it's looking more like he will turn out to be right.
It's like how it sounds depressing when people would say we are going to get blown out by someone(and not just in the money games) and people turn out to be right. That, or how even during our best years, we still aren't going to win the money game, and don't. And aren't going to win NCAA Tournament games no matter how great of a regular season team we are in basketball.
Some people thought prior to the 2016 season that thinking we would win "only" 4 or 5 games that year, then it turned out that getting even 4 wins that year was too optimistic.
Likewise, while helping take down the stage at the tabernacle, someone told me that events would not be held there for the foreseeable future, and I thought it sounded bad when he thought events in the tabernacle wouldn't happen again until July. But instead, the ability to pack the tabernacle by July was too optimistic, as here it's July and we are only even going to church with all these restrictions(and to avoid this turning into sandbox material, avoid replying at least in this thread about how there are better things to do than go to church, as the alternative Sunday activities to attending church are in the same boat, as well as every faith's services are in the same boat as LDS)

Pac-12 and Big Ten talking doing conference games only....
Yeah, I’m guessing no college sports at all until January at the earliest.
COVID, you suck.

I still think it is perfectly capable of holding the season, but i am not in charge. I also think it can be done in a fairly respinsible way, but its not my call.

If we decide to play, we should do the same.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑July 8th, 2020, 9:52 pmI still think it is perfectly capable of holding the season, but i am not in charge. I also think it can be done in a fairly respinsible way, but its not my call.

Re: Ivy League cancels fall sports
Dartmouth was the last ranked team from the Ivy. 50 years ago. So, they matter. A lot.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
