Local WR has offer to AFA & Weber St.
Jaylen Sargent is quite a player and at 6'4" could grow into a Tarver type WR body for USU. Hope they pull the trigger on this kid. He's a good one right in the back yard at Logan High.

I just put together a 247 profile for Jaylen last weekend. I know that we are very aware of Jaylen but he told me that we haven't shown much interest yet.

Former Denver Bronco and new head coach at Northern Colorado Ed McCaffrey saw him film and offered him almost immediately. I hear the USU staff really likes him, and that he is in contact regularly, but who knows.

He looks like a good find. I love when we snag the Utah boys, most of them play with a lot of pride. Why would any receiver would ever want to play for Air Force? Man, 247sports shows interest form YBU and Cal. Come on USU.

What was that AFA receiver a few years ago that always killed us. Robinette or something like that? Averaged like 30 yards per catch. Was 6'4".

Sounds like the guy to me. I hated our defense for that game.

Yeah, this is puzzling to me. He looks better than many other local WR's we have offered in the past. I expected him to be a little slow but he moves well for his height.

Is it just me, or do we hate to recruit HS WRs over 6' ?
Basically every WR here over 6 feet are transfers.

Something to think about is the fact that we have limited scholarships avail - we have early missionaries - maybe they just dont have anything available? Not sure how the push forward thing works with those guys returning

I have watched the kid play in person, he has talent, but he needs to get much stronger, also IMHO he is a marginal D-1 talent. I would be fine if he gets signed but he does not that's ok also.taniataylor wrote: ↑May 18th, 2020, 1:54 pmSomething to think about is the fact that we have limited scholarships avail - we have early missionaries - maybe they just dont have anything available? Re: Local WR has offer to AFA & Weber St.
The BIG issue is, not only do we recruit 6'2"+ WR's but so does EVERYBODY else! The first JuCo WR that we offered in the 2021 class is Jaylen Griffin from Kilgore CC in Texas. We were his first offer. He is now approaching 30.

Re: Local WR has offer to AFA & Weber St.
I would think in the new world of numerous transfers, all else equal, take the local guy. Chances of a kid becoming a standout and leaving to go home are more and more the norm. Ray Lewis' son comes to mind. If this kid becomes a standout and I think he will, he's not going anywhere. By the way his father is tall has huge muscles, and is cut. If he's any indication of Jaylen's future, this kid might get an NFL shot.
Re: Local WR has offer to AFA & Weber St.
OleBlu is spot on with Jaylen. I’ve watched Jaylen for years. He needs to get lots stronger and he’s not a great route runner. Runs the fade route really well and high points the ball great, but going across the middle and getting in and out of breaks he has some work to do. I think Jaylen has a lot of potential, but if we don’t offer that’s fine.oleblu111 wrote: ↑May 18th, 2020, 2:04 pmI have watched the kid play in person, he has talent, but he needs to get much stronger, also IMHO he is a marginal D-1 talent. Strange tape. His team doesn't celebrate with him much.. One or two. But never the whole team..And few when he gets back to the sideline no one says anything. Is that a Logan thing ?

Offered him. Wyoming also recently offered him. I think I saw an interview from 22 where he stated he wanted to get away from the valley. 22 is that right?

Btw the commit from sky view appears to be tearing it up this year.

He did say that in his interview BUT that was before the Utah State offer materialized. I spoke with him last night and he is absolutely considering Utah State.

I like this kid. Good size.. I’ve seen him play a few times and I love his game and should really blossom once our Strength coach gets a hold of him. I heard we didn’t have a scholarship for him. Something must have changed.

This might be the weirdest observation from tape I've read on this board. But it has me hopeful for future tape breakdowns of how the waterboy seems to always serve a guy the water last.

I believe Ole Blue has some traction with his critical evaluation post. Blue understands the game of football and right or not, he will post what is on his mind, even when he bites my face on this board. Probably won't miss too many athletic bets listening to Ole Blue.

There is NO traction on that. Jaylen is a beloved teammate and a super kid. He is NOT a recruit you should be concerned about as a teammate.

Re: Local WR has offer to AFA & Weber St.
Ole blues observation was he felt like he lacked strength and as of last fall was a marginal D-1 talent. Not that he was a bad teammate.
