Re: Woodward?
I'll be surprised if anyone signs Dave Woodward. He might have been better off staying for his senior season and trying to prove that he could get healthy and stay healthy.
It was tough to watch the linebackers from Wyoming get drafted because he is so much better than those two dudes.

Re: Woodward?
I feel for woodward. I loved watching him play. If healthy he would have been a 3rd round pick. One of my favorite aggies.

Entering the draft was a Hail Mary.... no one was going to touch the concussion issues

Re: Woodward?
But if he can’t play in the nfl and college isn’t really an option he just as well move in with life. Too bad for him.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 8:14 amI'll be surprised if anyone signs Dave Woodward. Re: Woodward?
What's to keep him from coming back to USU for his senior season? What's to lose if his ultimate dream is to play in the league. If he played a year injury free with his consistent production, he would hear his name in the draft.
I have to believe he wants to continue playing or he wouldn't be trying to make a team.
Chances seem very slim but it would be awesome to see him anchoring the defense again.

Re: Woodward?
Him signing with an agent and remaining an entrant in the 2020 NFL draft is what's keeping him from coming back for his senior season.MaverickAggie wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 2:44 pmWhat's to keep him from coming back to USU for his senior season? Re: Woodward?
As I understand it, he declared for the draft and with that gave up his remaining eligibility to play college football. It's not like basketball where they have the predraft assessment and they can back out prior to the draft. On top of that, he actually went through the draft process, so even if there was something in place, like basketball, he would have nullified it by actually participating in the draft.MaverickAggie wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 2:44 pmWhat's to keep him from coming back to USU for his senior season? Re: Woodward?
Gotcha! That makes sense. I was confused with the basketball change thinking they could do that in football but I guess going through the draft it wouldn't matter anyway.Aggie19 wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 3:21 pmAs I understand it, he declared for the draft and with that gave up his remaining eligibility to play college football. Now it's just too bad he declared early.

Lots of truth here rato.... No matter how much I loved to watch him play, the NFL bit was a stretch. Perhaps 15 or 20 years ago the concussion thing would have been dismissed, yet now, a radiant liability. He was such an instinctive player to enjoy watching play after play. .

Re: Woodward?
+1. What's best for him might be a retirement from football. You only get one brain and it's kind of important that it functions well. I don't blame him for trying though. I would want to go to the league if I had his talents as well. I wish the best for him. He will go down as one of my all-time favorite Aggies.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 9:08 pmratofallaggies wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 12:40 pmEntering the draft was a Hail Mary.... no one was going to touch the concussion issues

Re: Woodward?
When he shut himself (with the help of doctors) mid-way through last season, I said that was the best thing for him to do for his long-term health. I was very surprised when he announced that he would enter the draft. I guess I don't blame him. If you have the opportunity to get paid to do something that you have invested nearly your entire life in, you have to take it.
The knock that I had read on Woodward from scouts was his short arms and lack of sideline-to-sideline speed. They are all quick to note that he has a nose for the ball, but the measurable qualities just don't match the prototype they are looking for.

Re: Woodward?
This is something that the NCAA needs to change, there is no good reason why an underclassman can't declare for the draft and if he doesn't get drafted or even if he does get drafted and doesn't like where he got drafted to have the option to return to college and get better.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 3:19 pmHim signing with an agent and remaining an entrant in the 2020 NFL draft is what's keeping him from coming back for his senior season.MaverickAggie wrote: ↑April 26th, 2020, 2:44 pmWhat's to keep him from coming back to USU for his senior season? Re: Woodward?
This is actually an NCAA thing. The NCAA is the one who determines eligibility. They can change this any time they want.
