Think teams are scared over the concussions?

I think Woodward may have options and may be weighing them or see who offers. Other guys don't have much choice.

Don’t free agents usually go fast? I remember reading that there is a limited pool of money for each team to spend. There top offers get the most and the rest get little to nothing.

If you don’t act fast you don’t get a guarantee.

I'll be surprised if anyone signs Dave Woodward. He might have been better off staying for his senior season and trying to prove that he could get healthy and stay healthy.

Unfortunately I agree with you. I fell bad for the kid, in my opinion he was the next best player after Love. I wish him the best.

Maybe it's better that he doesn't play football after all of that. A price can't be put on his health.

What’s the risk for a team? They aren’t using a draft pick on him- that’s risky. If he isn’t good, send him home.

I believe he gained the weight so I don’t see him not being worth the risk of being cut to the reward of having a linebacker with great Instincts.

Maybe there is risk i am not thinking about?

I think missing almost half a year after a concussion is a huge worry. In the world of CTE and the sensitivity around it, if a team doctor cleared him and then he went on to get more concussions and developed CTE, they would be liable. Not that it can't happen with every player they sign, but if you've got a guy with a history and there is a compounding effect of the concussions, that risk goes up.

I guess I always just thought it was silly that we are pretending just now that we are finding out that concussions have a long term impact.

But if he isn’t cleared, he isn’t cleared.

I don't know this for certain, so it's purely hypothetical. Perhaps he couldn't return to Utah State because our doctors weren't going to clear him and perhaps he hasn't signed with an NFL team because their doctors weren't going to clear him either.

If I remember correctly he also missed nearly all of fall camp with a concussion.

That would make most sense to me. Otherwise I think there is no downside to signing a free agent deal with an all-american (on pace for another of not for concussion) that you can cut for nothing if he isn't good enough. He may sign later if he gets clearance.

From what I understand he MAY, may being the operative word, never be medically cleared to play.

Nobody wants to risk that liability. He is most likely done, in my opinion.

That is very sad. The dude was a BALLER!! He literally was our defense at the beginning of the year before his injury. I remember at the beginning of last season I was looking at some 2021 drafts and Woodward was projected to be a late 1st round/early 2nd round pick in 2021 if he continued playing like he had been playing. I feel bad for him but know he will be successful in anything he does in life.

AGGIE NATION WILL FOREVER LOVE YOU WOODY!!! :golfclap: :thanks:
