A 64 play/performance Tournament
I thought of an idea to pass the time while we are stuck in our homes. A 64 Aggie Football play/ individual performance March Madness Tournament, where 64 historical Aggie Football play or individual performances are voted against each other in an elimination tournament. I can think of a number to include just since I started watching in 2000. Of course, to fill out the field to 64, some would be from games we were supposed to win. Who likes the idea of me putting together a tournament like that to vote in?

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
I intend on doing 64 football ones. And I could do 64 basketball ones. The problem with combining sports is there is already bias as to being a being a bigger football fan or basketball fan. And extending to olympic sports, some bias as to how much people care or don't care how well those sports do. Whenever a thread suggesting a non football/basketball coach needs to go, a debate over how important those sports are starts, which is a long discussion for another place and time.
I realize we can't fill it out with just plays in wins over BYU and Utah, so I would include ones from games we were supposed to win, and, though very selectively, games we lost.
I can remember most of the big ones as far back as 2000, any nominations for plays from before that?

I'm sure we all have enough time on our hands to do a football and a hoops one separately.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑March 19th, 2020, 11:42 amSign me up!!! We should do basketball and football together in one bracket or just all sports together for top Aggie sports moments ever!

While not a great USU play, Al Lewis' call of "the hot dog's off the mustard!!" must be on the list.

Jake Doughty leveling the CSU kicker also has to be on the list. I never get tired of watching the replay.

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
I trust GFA will have a good list. Some I would consider:
Wagner's one-handed interception
Chuck Jacobs (I believe it was Chuck?) between the two defenders in the Hawai'i comeback win
Siaosi Mariner toe-tap catch in the endzone
The punt return for the touchdown to eke out a victory against Southern Utah (a highlight from a depressing season)
The Robert Turbin 95 yard TD run
I'll think of more.
Wagner's one-handed interception
Chuck Jacobs (I believe it was Chuck?) between the two defenders in the Hawai'i comeback win
Siaosi Mariner toe-tap catch in the endzone
The punt return for the touchdown to eke out a victory against Southern Utah (a highlight from a depressing season)
The Robert Turbin 95 yard TD run
I'll think of more.

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
Good start to the list. Maybe drop the punt return just because it was a precursor to the horrible season ahead.Yossarian wrote: ↑March 20th, 2020, 11:59 amI trust GFA will have a good list. Some I would consider:

I think it was Stanley Morrison that caught the TD between the two dudes in Hawaii. However, Chuck also had a huge TD catch in that game as well.

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
The coming-out party that Kevin Curtis had on opening day against Utah. He had me asking who the hell this kid is?? I'm pretty sure Utah didn't know either.

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
Oh, I know they didn't. That whole staff was completely shocked. I sat behind Whittingham at a Salt Lake Bees game the summer after Curtis burned the Utes. The guy I was with and I spent the entire baseball game talking about Curtis and how Utah couldn't stop him and on and on and on right behind Whit. We acted like we didn't know who he was and were talking loud enough for him to hear us and give us glances out of the corner of his eye. He was obviously annoyed. It was childish, but entertaining.
By the way - is this bracket for single plays? or entire game performances?

Hey, sometimes you just have to take advantage of the opportunity to act a little childish. There's plenty of time to act like a grown-up later.Yossarian wrote: ↑March 20th, 2020, 3:11 pmOh, I know they didn't. That whole staff was completely shocked. I'm thinking it will include both some single plays and some entire game performances. Most of what has been mentioned will certainly be in it.

The blocked punt and recovery in the endzone to start the win over Utah in 2012.

Re: A 64 play/performance Tournament
Here is an OLD one. I was 12 years old. Dad took me to the USU vs Utah game in SLC (we lived there). (still do)
Utah had an All American QB named Lee Grosscup. We had Merlin frickin Olsen. Grosscup goes back to pass, see's his receiver, and lets it fly. It flew only about 3 or 4 feet, as Merlin raised both hands to block the pass, but was nimble enough to nab the pass out of the air for an interception. It was truly an amazing play.

The blocked punt /recovery in the endzone as time expired for the win in the sleet in Romney in 1972.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

The Post Injury Chuckie comeback against Nevada. Our punt team pinned them on the one and then someone got a fumble in the endzone?
