No. He's on my list and I reported him as having come on a visit two weeks ago. He was here the same time John Gentry was. Breaker didn't announce his commitment until this morning.

I don't think he's quite up to ACC football level competition.

The D news says usu are the only ones to offer him. Are we sure he’s quite up to MWC football level competition?

We've had some really good players over the years that only had offers from USU.calaggie wrote:The D news says usu are the only ones to offer him. Are we sure he’s quite up to MWC football level competition?

I have a feeling this kid's football IQ, especially defensively, is pretty strong, given who his dad is. Guys like that tend to make up for some of their percieved deficiencies by playing smart sound football. We'll see.

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
I could not care less if he had zero offers. Bobby Wagner had one. Zach V. had zero. Nick V. had one. Kyler Fack. had zero. Jordan Love had zero. I could go on and on.... The kid is 6'2 and 180 bs. He is a coach's son so he likely has a high football IQ and I suspect is pretty bright too. His dad was a tough, scrappy player who maximized his average talent at OSU. If the son is like the father, he'll produce results. I saw his tape and I see a good athlete with decent speed. I can see him helping us. I'm glad we got him

Or the guys that have lot's of offers and don't pan out. Recruiting isn't an exact science. I don't know how good Breaker will be for us but he's an Aggie now and I hope he proves daddy wrong.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑February 5th, 2020, 12:10 pmSomehow no one ever mentions the guys that only had USU offers and didn't pan out.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑February 5th, 2020, 11:57 amWe've had some really good players over the years that only had offers from USU.calaggie wrote:The D news says usu are the only ones to offer him. Even if Breaker was a 4* recruit, playing for your Dad is always a bad idea.

Gotta get to Utah to find that eternal companion!
But seriously, it can be hard to work/play for your father. No matter how good you are, there will always be suspicions that you are getting preferential treatment. Sometimes father's are extra hard on their sons in such cases - and that's no good either.

As far as playing for dad - it is good to learn from someone other than the same person that has been teaching your for 18 years. There are other points of view and tips that you haven't heard/learned from the person that has been mentoring you your entire life. This is how a person grows (in all aspects of life).

What if he just wants to go to USU? What if Bronco and Gary have a good relationship and trust each other to coach their kids? Crazy.

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
I watched his senior year hudl video and he actually looks pretty good! He is super fast and has great hands. In addition, he was a really good tackler and blocker. It has him listed as an athlete, but in high school he played both DB and WR. He is 6'2. Any ideas on what position he would play? (Sorry if it has already been discussed somewhere else)

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
Dan Hawkins was heavily criticized at CU when Cody played there. QB is particularly prone to that.
Though the Whittingham kids, Andersen boys, and Lavell Edward's sons all did all right when they played for their dads.
Hope Breaker has a good career at USU.

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
Pretty sure I heard Coach A say they were looking at him as a Safety, which would make sense...right now. Maybe plans will change after his 2-year mission (yes, they still go out for a full 2 years at USU )ThunderAggie wrote: ↑February 5th, 2020, 5:01 pmI watched his senior year hudl video and he actually looks pretty good! I know he was introduced as a safety but I think he might be more successful here as a wide receiver.

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
KSL: Andersen said Mendenhall was recruited because of his own accomplishments and not because of his father’s reputation. He said the younger Mendenhall had the option to choose among a number of schools, not just USU and Virginia. Bronco Mendenhall joined his son for a recruiting trip to Logan on a couple of occasions where he was able to spend a day and a half checking out the campus and the football program.
"He decided to come here because he thought that was best for him," Andersen said. "It was great to have them here. It's not about Bronco, it's not about myself, it's about Breaker, but Bronco was excited, as is the rest of the family, that he is joining us."
https://www.ksl.com/article/46714067/de ... ball-class
sounds like he had choices.

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?
Something about this situation feels off. Like Gary doing Bronco a solid in this old boy’s network. Hoping I’m wrong and the kid does great things for USU, but I can’t seem to shake this vision that we’ll spend 2 years of time and resources developing him as a player and then we’ll see him in the transfer portal and on daddy’s roster by spring ball ‘22. Could be back in Bronco’s stable even sooner if the transfer rule changes and you can move once without sitting a year.Jjoey52 wrote: ↑February 25th, 2020, 8:00 pmProvoAggie wrote: ↑February 5th, 2020, 11:57 amWe've had some really good players over the years that only had offers from USU.calaggie wrote:The D news says usu are the only ones to offer him. A lot of speculation on my part here, though I can’t be the only one who was skeptical at first glance.
