LSU is overrated

Post by SLB » October 3rd, 2019, 10:25 am

LSU is a good team, but they are not a great team.
LSU's schedule breakdown before facing us.
LSU beat Georgia Southern (1-3 Sun Belt team with their only win against a FCS school.) 55-3
LSU beat Texas (3-1 team and their wins were against 2 C-USA team and a 6 point win at home against Okla State) 45-38.
LSU beat Northwestern State (FCS school) 65-14
LSU beat Vandy (1-3 team with their only win came against NIU 24-18) 66-38.

The odds are against us, but it is not extremely against us as many would lead us to believe.

No they're not. Just stop. They have the #1 offense in the nation right now. They also lost some key players to injuries against Texas & Vandy that are returning for our game.

Why try to drag LSU down? All that means is we accomplished less if it's a close game and that we suck even more if we're blown out.

not counting bowls, the previous 3 years they've gone 9-3, 9-3, and 8-4. in the SEC.

they are most definitely not overrated.

Who knows, but they sure look good on paper. Their lines, receivers, backers and secondary are big. They're QB is a blue chipper who is playing lights out. The question is which Aggie team will show up and more precisely, which version of Jordan Love?

LSU is ranked #5 or #6 (depending on the poll), but LSU's SOS in their 1st 4 games is weak.
Both Texas and Vandy scored 38 points on LSU. LSU is definitely a top 25 team, but I seriously doubt that they are a top 6 team.

Let's be honest, how would our offense ranked if we had the same 4 games.

ed orgeron has been at LSU since 2015 as DL coach then HC from 2016. players graduate and transfer, but that's a lot of stability. there's no reason to assume they will all of a sudden be a completely different team from last year in a negative sense. their floor is 8-9 wins and a bowl while playing in the SEC.

given how they've played, on the road, against texas and vanderbilt, and their last 4 years of coaching, players, and final record, i can't imagine how they are overrated.

Most years, you may be right. This year, the offense is legit and scary good. Burrow has graduated and is only taking an online course or two. He's a coach's kid who is eating and sleeping film study. I can truly only think of 2 throws this year that were a bad decision.

On defense, I'm pretty sure Aranda didn't forget how to coach and they've returned a lot from last year's defense. The culprit this year has been missed tackles which luckily is something that can be corrected.

For clarification, if in your definition LSU WAS a "great team", what would their record look like against that schedule? Obviously the wins and margins aren't enough to have impressed you, so how much would they need to have won those games by for you to change your opinion?

Sadly, according to the stats we have a better defense than the teams that LSU has played so far.

That's because those teams have played LSU. LSU is an incredible team. I bet when it's done you'll see at least 15 of their 22 starters play in the NFL.

The last few days I have watched all of LSU's games, I will say this, if we can tackle in space and if our offense/special teams take care of the ball, we will be in the game in the fourth quarter. I would not be shocked if we win this game, I would be shocked if we get embarrassed.

I am looking for tough teams. Only one decent team there in Texas, the win margin was only 7 points on the road. 3 very weak teams that most FBS teams could also have blowout wins.

But they haven't played any "tough teams" as you put it. So against the schedule they have, what results would they need to have for you to switch from saying they're "good" to "great"?

Not true. Let's put some real information behind this. Texas' defense has played 2 G5 teams. Rice & La Tech. La Tech is 4-1 with their only loss being Texas.

In both of those games Texas did not give up a single point until the 4th quarter of the game when it was a blowout and all the backups were in. No G5 team has scored against Texas in the 1st 3 quarters. Their defense is pretty good.

Posts like the original one are going to be so dumb if we lose by 20+ to LSU (very likely). :bangwall:

By the way, LSU won 10 games last year with the bowl win. This is the exact same post someone from Georgia Southern and Texas kept posting over and over leading up to the game. I respect your Aggies tremendously. I think they have a good offense. However, I don't see you sticking around past halftime. No offense, but Texas is a lot more talented than Utah State and we had them down two TDs in the fourth quarter on the road in a hostile stadium. I'm sure you guys will score points — my guess is in the 20-28 range. But I just don't see you holding LSU under 45 and that would be my conservative prognostication.

Hope you guys who are coming enjoy the atmosphere albeit a day game. Wish you luck the rest of the season. Have the utmost respect for your coach. Good luck Saturday and let's hope both teams come out of this without any major injuries.

Yes, this needs to stop.

I'm a USU homer, but I know damn well that we are going to lose on Saturday. LSU is legit, very legit.

I'm honestly still worried about clean snaps to Jordan. Is it possible that our center just has an unexplained case of the yips?

Not sure if you've heard, but if we play better than we normally play on defense, stop giving the ball away (against a better defensive opponent, no less!), and make some special teams plays...we could be in a position to win this thing. Pretty straightforward if you ask me.

Hard to say where your pessimism is coming from.

Those 4 wins are truly amazing like the following
6 point win against Grambling (a winless SWAC team)
12 point win against FIU (yet to get a win against a FBS team)
3 point win against Rice (yet to get a win)
28 point win against BG (lost to every FBS team that they have faced with an average margin of loss of 37.33 points per game)

This year's LSU team is without question one of the top 10 teams USU has EVER faced, and probably in the top 5. I will be happy if we aren't humiliated, and come away without any season/career ending injuries.

The difference with this LSU team is it has an offense......they usually don’t.

In past years LSU maybe scores 21 to 28 points, we score 10-14 and the game is somewhat close. This year they have an offense to match their defense.

This year's LSU team is without question one of the top 10 teams USU has EVER faced, and probably in the top 5. I will be happy if we aren't humiliated, and come away without any season/career ending injuries.
I think it's probably the best team USU has ever faced. At least in my lifetime. Tell me a team better in the last 40 years?
I think LK is thinking of when we played Nebraska and Oklahoma on consecutive seasons in '71-'72 when they were rated 1 and 2. They were just amazing, with their game in '72 being rated game of the century.

You keep using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

FYI, I notice that many have not dug into the stats. I pointed out a fact in the stats.
Like the LT comment, LT is 4-1 because 4 of the 5 teams that they faced have yet to have a win against a FBS team.
I have also exposed that we have a lot LSU kool aid drinking going on here.
I never said the chances are in our favor only that LSU is not as good as claimed, and we should have some feeling that we could win with knowing the chances are clearly not in our favor.

Bingo.
Additionally, USU has been playing football for over 120 years. How much of that are you familiar with? We've played some really good teams in that time. Your lifetime is not all of history.
