Weber State is in the semi-finals.
2 big sky teams made it to the semi-finals in the FCS playoffs.
It would be cool for Weber State to win it all in the FCS.

Jay Hill is a great coach. He is going to do great things when he decides to make the leap.

Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
There have been many coaches that are unable duplicate the same success they enjoyed once the jump from FCS to FBS is made. Jay Hill has a great thing going at Weber State he should enjoy the ride for awhile.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 13th, 2019, 11:28 pmJay Hill is a great coach. Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
I was at that game. That was some ugly football. Granted the weather was pretty awful. Montana brought a large contingency of fans. I wish we had Weber's defense. They had 5 interceptions and scored 3 points off them. The difference in this game was a blocked punt recovered in the end zone.

Those Montana schools have great support. I was watching the Montana state highlights and that stadium looks full. Pretty good for a mid December game in Montana.elcheque2 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 12:10 amI was at that game. That was some ugly football. Granted the weather was pretty awful. Also these playoffs are fun. I’d love to see our division do something like this. Games at home fields etc.

Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
And many coaches are great at the next level. Jim Harbaugh, Brian Kelly, Jim Tressel, Dino Babers, Chris Klieman, etc. . .aggies22 wrote: ↑December 13th, 2019, 11:54 pmThere have been many coaches that are unable duplicate the same success they enjoyed once the jump from FCS to FBS is made. Jay Hill took over Weber State when they were at the bottom and has made them one of the most consistent elite teams in FCS. I wouldn't bet against him as long as he is smart and doesn't take a unlv type job.

Montana had 5 turnovers. Weber had a total of 113 yards of offense. Incredible they still won.

Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
Ding ding. Fcs guys sometimes take poor opportunities (UNLV or say usu in the early 2000s) that are difficult to win in no matter who you are.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 7:34 amAnd many coaches are great at the next level. Hill is going to get an MWC job soon. After that happens I hope he doesn't continually show us how wrong we were to not hire him.
Colorado State would have been a good fit. New Mexico maybe. Fresno or Nevada would probably be okay for him.

He would do really well at fresno. NM is a complete dumpster fire that would be a tough situation. CSU would have been a good fit.

It’s gonna take a lot money and a good job for him to leave the state of Utah.

Good examples of success stories. Unfortunately, more often than not schools that would come after coaches such as Jay Hill are the UNLV type jobs.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 7:34 amAnd many coaches are great at the next level. Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
Many successful FCS coaches may be intoxicated to embrace poor judgement and a relative treasure chest of money to make the jump, yet D1 Football has and is changing before us. The job used to have some down time after the season and following spring football, but those days are gone.
40 hour coaching work weeks are rare to non existent, and to coach at the D1 level now has become a race of endurance and a new way of life. 60 to 75 hour weeks are accepted due to the money and prestige involved supported by the financial arms race we are living in. What is the end game for intercollegiate football with money driving the game?

Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
Fresno State has issues too. Yes, they won the MWC title last year, but they are also not among the most highly respected schools in California. Furthermore, they have similar issues that other schools in California have with drawing attendance when the cost of living there is ridiculous. That's just to list a couple.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 8:46 amHe would do really well at fresno. NM is a complete dumpster fire that would be a tough situation. Albuquerque is actually a great place. The program that needs to get a fire lit underneath it and wake up is Colorado State. They are a program that could really light it up and become something special.

Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
I thought Montana out played Weber. They were moving the ball well when they didn't turn it over. I think Sugar Bear is still DC at Montana. If it wasnt for a few dumb throws by the QB Montana wins that gameelcheque2 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 12:10 amI was at that game. That was some ugly football. Granted the weather was pretty awful. Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
Luckily for him unlv hired a coach. For his sake I hope he finds a gig with potential and if he does he will win. Colorado State is the type of place he needs to look for. I'm glad they didn't hire him.aggies22 wrote: ↑December 14th, 2019, 9:14 amGood examples of success stories. Re: Weber State is in the semi-finals.
I'm sure he has ambition to be a good FBS coach. Not many want to stay at the FCS and there aren't going to be a job open up in Utah anytime soon. We blew our chance at him last year and byu blew their chance this year be extending Sitake. Whittingham isn't going to be leaving Utah anytime soon. If he was smart he would take a MW job and if he does well he would have a great case to takeover for Whittingham. Scalley is supposedly their guy, but it would be hard to take him over a successful proven HC.
