Re: Lots of offers going out today
Scratching my head about more T E's. We have on the roster 4 Jr. T E's and two Freshman T E's. Perhaps another GOOD Junior T E but a couple of the Junior T E's are big enough to be interior "O" linemen or "D" linemen. The other possibility is we are a verifiable bust with T E's to date. I get it about "D" linemen for next season.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
Next year I think we will be running a pro style offense that could feature 2 tight ends in quite a few sets.
Can't wait to see which kids are committing to USU!

That would be an embarrassing miss for us.
Kid's not rated on 247, but their high school just won State 4a. How does he rate? Seems like he's go the size?

Just saw on Twitter that USU made Alex Harrison’s top 5. Along with Nebraska, Oregon, USC, and Utah.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
It's super interesting what we are building on our O-line for the future.
Hunter Hill last year, and now some solid guys this year. 247 has Alex Harrison warmer to USU.
Could really be a smash mouth line 3-4 years from now that is dominating in the run game.

If we are going for DL players, that would indicate sticking with the defensive scheme we currently see, yes?

I don’t think we’ll see a change in philosophy on the defensive side of the ball. I’d say first you don’t succeed, try, try again.AndroidAggie wrote:If we are going for DL players, that would indicate sticking with the defensive scheme we currently see, yes?
We haven’t heard much of substance from Gary, but what he has said points to only to the offense.

I believe so. I have projected him to pick Utah. If we can get him on an official visit before the 13th our chances will increase.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
On a complete side note. I was in Lincoln last weekend and you would have guessed Nebraska was playing for the division championship. Sold out stadium of 90k, red everywhere. Really cool atmosphere. Meanwhile I turned on the Utah football game for a minute and you would have thought they could have filled in their 45k seat stadium. Mostly filled up but def some rooM. Kind of crazy considering the metro size they are in, size of stadium and what was on the line.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
do you -- or anyone in general -- think that if we had bigger faster stronger linemen then tipa wouldn't have been neutralized by playing out of position?

We had the horses to play a 3-4/3-3-5. What was done to Tipa by making him a DE was criminal.AndroidAggie wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 8:20 amdo you -- or anyone in general -- think that if we had bigger faster stronger linemen then tipa wouldn't have been neutralized by playing out of position?

A lot of players nationwide heading to the transfer portal. Hopefully we can pick up a couple of hidden gems that can help immediately.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
I'd go with inept and blundering regarding Tipa and the defense in general. To take a defense, a very good defense that played in 2018 from a 3-4 stunting set and move to a 4-3 immobile foundation is a blistering indictment of our D C. The defense played a good deal in 2018 resulting from our hurry up offense, and still did very, very well. ENA threw that all away this season and I have no faith in his philosophies, abilities or true football intellect. That we struggled defensively in the second half most of our games this season is. Past time for a change...AndroidAggie wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 9:55 amI'm so confused at why it happened

Re: Lots of offers going out today
Time is not our friend with the "O" linemen. I believe we have an excellent "O" line coach in T J Woods and with this last season his offensive linemen had their baptism of fire.... Next season must be the year as they are all we now have.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2019, 9:27 pmIt's super interesting what we are building on our O-line for the future.

No. Putting Tipa a yard away from guys that are 300+ pounds was the problem. Even if you had Haloti Ngata and Star Lotuleilei Tipa would have remained neutered. I’m not a coach or an expert so someone could convince me otherwise.AndroidAggie wrote:do you -- or anyone in general -- think that if we had bigger faster stronger linemen then tipa wouldn't have been neutralized by playing out of position?

Bryson is 6'4" 220 and goes to Provo High. We are his first offer. Re: Lots of offers going out today
Of the offers that went out recently, obviously the big one is 3* DE Sam Moala. He would likely compete for playing time immediately. If they choose to commit, DE Bryson Taukeiaho is possibly a grayshirt candidate and OL Justice Ena is a sign and send.

Re: Lots of offers going out today
Yes, you've hit it on the head with Tipa. He's a finesse rusher. In the 4 man front he has to take and squeeze the tackle or our LBs get there asses blown up on the inside run. He also has to maintain contain with that squeeze. As soon as he reads pass he's already making contact with a tackle who is going to try and hold him close limiting his moves and at times trapping him inside for contain. Tipa tried to adjust at times by going more upfield with his first steps but that really leaves the ILBs hanging on anything inside and the reduced angle allows the tackle to move back with him and force him outside the pocket deep.dyedblue wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2019, 6:06 pmNo. Putting Tipa a yard away from guys that are 300+ pounds was the problem. He still made some plays with his athleticism but it really limited his skill set as he's not anything close to the type of player who has the strength and leverage to play a true 4 man front end. He was a little more effective on passing downs later in the year when he could step out or ditch his 3 point stance.
Tei was a bit better but still he was playing out of position IMO. The best true end was actually Nick Henninger IMO.
