Knee jerk reactions after Fresno

Post by Aggiefever » November 9th, 2019, 9:34 pm

1- Jordan L looked really good today. He made decisions quicker and didn’t seem to hold the ball as long
2- The receivers looked a lot better today. Mariner’s 2nd TD catch was really good to get his foot down and Jordan N made an amazing catch. Glad to see he came back later in the game.
3- I liked the decision to go for it on 4th with 6 minutes left but I hate the play call. Why don’t we ever put 2 running back in the backfield? We could use 1 to block or to create some misdirection or just about anything other than a delayed handoff up the middle.
4- I am not saying that Coach A is not a good coach, but he just does seem to have the same attitude. When he was here before, his enthusiasm was infectious (like Coach Smith). I am not saying that he has to show a lot of emotion to be a good coach, it is just different.
5- Is it bad that on 3rd and 33, there was still a big part of me that thought that they were going to gain 34 yards?
6- A win is a win and I will take it anyway that we can get it.

I’m really glad Fresno watched zero film on how to slow down our passing game. Little to no press coverage all night is what the doctor ordered. I felt like we could’ve ran the ball a lot more to sustain drives and open up receivers. We need a better balance. And more runs outside the tackles.

After we proved we could run a play under center to ensure the lateral pass why the #$#%$R hell can't we run a QB sneak or I formation at the 1 foot line when the whole damn stadium knew we were running inside read. DUMB, DUMB and DUMBER. I can't express just how idiotic that was.

I guess since the Aggies don't have a 6'3 230 decently athletic QB that a QB sneak would ever work. Maybe once they get one they can go under center there.

Even Al mentioned GA seemed more active and alive tonight, clapping and encouraging players after good plays.

Outside of the 4 and 1 play call i though Sanford did a nice job calling the game. Love was money tonight, it was so nice to see him make good decisions. The O-line played well. I know Fresno does not have the greatest defense, but it was still awesome to see the offense play well. The defense had some issues, but they are down so many players. If was great to see them make the few stops they did when they counted the most. GA is not going to be the same coach emotionally that he was the first time around. He for sure is not perfect and the last 2 weeks were garbage, but I will give him all the credit for having the team/coaches ready to play tonight in a tough environment. We are 4-1 in conference with road wins at SDSU and Fresno, not many aggie teams have been able to do that.

I thought that both the offensive and defensive play calls were good (minus the calls on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and goal). I think we got better pressure on the QB but our guys just missed a bunch of tackles. I would like to see more creativity on offense and even though it didn’t work, I was happy to see us try the lateral pass.

I saw a wheel route in the 3rd quarter to Warren for 36 yards. That made me happy. Yost seemingly ran one of these every game.

We also has a really good screen set up to Bright who dropped it. He would have had a large gain had he controlled the catch. That wheel routes was awesome, not the greatest throw, but an awesome catch by warren to catch it in bounds.

Love was money tonight and the play calling was much better. I did feel like we abandoned the run game at times and took some ill advised deep shots that left us in third and long. That was a fun game to watch.

Sanford had a very good night play calling. Got to give credit where it is due.
Mariner is a great wide receiver that has been massively impactful for us. Another 100 plus yard performance with 2 tds.

Love always looks good in warm weather. It’s the below 45 degree we have to worry about him. Just can’t play in cold weather

He holds him with his glittering eye—
The [defensive back] stood still,
And listens like a three years' child:
The Mariner hath his will.....

'I fear thee, ancient Mariner!
I fear thy skinny hand!
And thou art long, and lank, and brown,
As is the ribbed sea-sand.

I fear thee and thy glittering eye,
And thy skinny hand, so brown.'—
Fear [on], fear [on], thou [defensive back]!
This [ball shan’t be] dropt... down.

Colleridge on the USUFans board. I just died and went to Heaven.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
