The Last Time We Went to Air Force

Post by Floppy Hat » October 22nd, 2019, 2:24 pm

November 25, 2017

Utah State: 32
Air Force: 35

There isn't much from this game on YouTube, but one of our very own has posted each quarter of the game there. The 4th quarter starts with us getting a key 4th down stop at the 1/2 yard line to prevent Air Force from scoring. We then go on a 99 yard drive to take the lead. We traded touchdowns twice in the 4th quarter, but ultimately our final drive ended on a 4th down incompletion at the Air Force 42.

Three Things:
- Air Force started sophomore QB Isaiah Sanders (1st career start) and he ran all over us...44 carries for 196 yards and 3 TDs. Prior to that game he had 6 carries earlier that season in garbage time. I never saw that coming.
- This was Jordan Love's 5th start and he went 17 of 30 for 284 yards and two TDs
- We allowed 407 rushing yards...we haven't allowed anyone else to rush for over 400 yards since then. Not surprisingly, we only allowed 33 passing yards on 4 completions...

And the additional challenge this year is that they have a passing game.

They have a passing game? Air Force is averaging 14.5 attempts per game completing 5.7 of those passes for 133 yrds. They have 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. That is not a passing game. They hit one to two big shots a game because the defense gets lulled to sleep.

Looked similar to this year. Dropped passes, passes just off the mark.

I hated this loss so much. Our run D is miles ahead of where it was in 2017. Just gotta play up to our standard to win this year! And any time you piss off Calhoun is a good day.
