The Last Time Nevada Came to Logan

Post by Floppy Hat » October 14th, 2019, 4:01 pm

November 21, 2015

Nevada: 27
Utah State: 31

Three Things
- This was the season of the portable "press boxes" on the east side, as the press box and suites were under construction on the west side.
- This win made us bowl eligible for the 5th straight season...it was also a win at home against Nevada in 2011 that made us bowl eligible to start that streak.
- They couldn't contain us on kickoff returns, we had 4 returns for 255 yards...on their last kickoff they simply kicked it out of bounds...despite great field position we only managed two offensive touchdowns all day.
- The run by Devante Mays with about six minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter will always be my favorite Mays memory.

It was after this game that USUBlue called into the radio and tried to ask Kyle Whimpey if there are times as a lineman you forget about technique and knock someone down. He told him that if you don't use good technique, you get dirt on your jersey and give up a TFL. He also got in trouble with Wells for talking about one of our calls, Rip and Liz. While most of us were critical of old Mark Weber, Kyle was defensive of him.

Mays, when healthy, was probably as good, possibly better, than Darwin. Sure would have loved to see what he could do in a full season without injury.

1. Man what a wild game - down 27-7 bring it back to win
2. I loved that Meyer's check and run, about one of the few positives with him.
3. That broken ankle I think it was Mays gave to that Nevada safety was priceless
4. That defensive TD proves that Special Teams wins games! Getting that ball down at the 1 was awesome. Just wish we could have done something like that to LSU

I don't disagree. I also think he was known to be a bit "fragile".

Whatever happened to Mays? I know he was cut from Green Bay, but did he at least make another practice squad?

I remember that incident. I've got news for Matt, rip and liz are fairly common football terms.

Can't believe that was only 4 years ago.

The press box thing
Hunter sharpe
Kennedy Williams
Vigil playing RB
Chuckie playing .... That seems like forever ago
Torrey Green... ( sure he is enjoying this flash back where ever he is now ... Gunnison?? )

We have a history of good returns against Reno:

- 2005: Tony Pennyman returned one 99 yards for a TD (6th longest in school history)
- 2010: Kerwynn Williams returned one 92 yards for a TD (15th longest in school history)
- 2015: Hunter Sharp's 96 yarder (9th longest in school history)

Are you talking about 2009 ish? I freaked my 2yo out when I celebrated on the recovery. That call was the biggest crock of crap.

And Kevin Robinson returned one against Nevada, when that was our best hope of scoring.

That Pennyman return didn't look like it was against UNR. Maybe UNLV? Must have been before he beat up his girlfriend.

I remember the offsides call. I feel like they had 8 refs within those eight yards watching for something.

1. This reminds me how awesome Nick Vigil is, top 5 of favorite Aggies.
2. I for got how good Hunter Sharp was.
3. If Mays could have stayed healthy he could have been one of the best backs we’ve had.

You're right. It was UNLV, not UNR.

It was 2009. That was when James Bindley recovered the kick but it got called back. That was a rip off. I mean, we were still losing so it wasn’t a guarantee anything would have changed, but it would have been fun to watch! At that point it was 32-35 so maybe we could have tied it up with a field goal.

Photographic evidence that we were not offsides and that the refs completely blew that call

All those refs and they still blew the call.
