USU 2020 Commits Performance - 9/20/2019
Dahlin Mesake (DE/OLB), Bishop Gorman HS – No game this week. Will host Silverado HS in Las Vegas next week. The Gaels are currently ranked as the top team in Nevada, and #20 in the country. Mesake has contributed to a strong defensive roster that has faced a daunting schedule thus far, including a trip to Hawaii to play St. Louis HS (#7 nationally), and the current second-ranked team in Utah, Lone Peak.
Upton Stout (CB), North Shore HS – No game this week. The Mustangs (2-1) didn’t play this week, which was probably for the best as the Houston area continues to clean up from Tropical Storm Imelda. North Shore will resume their season next week against La Porte HS (1-2). North Shore is currently ranked as the third-best team in Texas, and #19 nationally. Stout has established himself as a premier defensive back in the Houston area, including a stellar performance against Katy HS where he picked off two deep passes.
Yaro Duvalko (QB), Skyview HS – Duvalko and the #12 Skyview Storm lost a tough road matchup to the #16 Mount Si Wildcats, 31-26. Skyview trailed the entire game, including 31-12 midway through the fourth quarter, and couldn’t quite muster the comeback. With the loss, the Storm move to 2-1 on the season. We will see Duvalko back in action next week as the Storm host Rogers HS from Puyallup. Expect some frustration to be taken out on the Rams as Skyview looks to get back on track.
Nick Session (DB), East HS – The #7 Leopards torched the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Friday, 41-0. Session continues to anchor a nasty defense that has recovered nicely after a tough outing against #6 American Fork two weeks ago. Next week will be a big one for East, as they take on #5 Bingham in a game that will have region title and state playoff seeding implications.
Isaiah Afatasi (RB), Kearns HS – Afatasi scored on a 16-yard touchdown run as the Cougars took care of the West Jordan Jaguars, 42-21. Kearns is now ranked in the Top 25 of Utah HS programs, coming in at #21. Afatasi has accounted for 175 rushing yards on 29 carries (6.03 ypc) with 2 touchdowns on the ground. He has also added 103 receiving yards from 10 catches (10.03 ypc) for 2 touchdowns through the air. On defense, Isaiah has tallied 39 tackles from the free safety position. Kearns will face Hunter HS in a battle of Region 2 undefeated teams. The winner will have the inside track to a region championship and improve their RPI score for playoff seeding.
