He just has to be able to squeeze on run downs. On passing downs he can still T-up and to be honest the same principal applies in the 3-4 as to how aggressive of a pass rusher you can be. Also the TRO can take a bit of aggression out of a d-end as staying at home and disciplined is critical. Wake held that ball in the gut of the RB forever it kind of held our D-line hostage a bit because they couldn't over penetrate and then let the bowling ball of a RB get a head of steam against the backers with blockers in front. Tipa's finesse pass rush style is particularly prone to getting kicked downfield out of C gap and out of the play if he penetrates too far off the tackle.Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑September 11th, 2019, 10:09 amsdiggety wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 7:48 pmWonder if he and DJ got complacent with the hype and thought they were already good and lost some of their hunger for the grind. Seems they both should have played better against SB. Following them on twitter, Tipa seemed unfocused and DJ seemed uncharacteristically cocky about his ability. I'm still assuming that DJ and Tipa and are going to light it up sooner or later. I just hope we are getting the hungry depth a shot rather than waiting for that to happen. I bet DJ lost some confidence trying to guard mariner all the time.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 5:21 pmAgreed. I have wondered where Tipa has been. He is on the field, but I haven't heard his name called much.utahcountyaggie wrote: ↑September 9th, 2019, 2:15 pm
And this has got to be SUPER concerning, because we haven't put pressure on either QB in either game.
I think the new defense is playing a big part on why tipa isnt being noticed as much.. i noticed that against stony brook he had his hand on the turf.. he never lined up like that last year. He was farther out on the edge
Tipa talked about how excited he was to come out of 3 pt. Nothing is more fun as edge guy as being able to get low with ears pinned back on passing downs. I think he will have a big game next week.
On one of the interviews on 1280 Coach Anderson discussed Tipa and some of the other rushers not being able to T-off on the QB due to Wake's offense being a rugby-style scrum and that they will get their chances against more traditional style passing offenses. They talked about how this style might be a new trend we start seeing more in college football. One of the broadcasters during the Wake game said a few times as well that you are going to start seeing more offenses copy that style to prevent QB pressure.
It was pretty ugly to me so I hope that isn't the case, but it was pretty effective.

Not quite a large enough data set to be a trend, but close.frankiesaysrelax wrote: ↑September 11th, 2019, 9:48 amUSU is 0-540-31 when we don’t score more points than the other team.

Yeah those 31 ties seem to mean that we won't lose if we don't score more so I am not convinced that its necessary.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑September 16th, 2019, 6:58 amNot quite a large enough data set to be a trend, but close.frankiesaysrelax wrote: ↑September 11th, 2019, 9:48 amUSU is 0-540-31 when we don’t score more points than the other team.

Probably need to stipulate a +/- 3 for standard deviation purposes. All it takes is "one time" to upset the ongoing trend.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑September 16th, 2019, 7:56 amYeah those 31 ties seem to mean that we won't lose if we don't score more so I am not convinced that its necessary.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑September 16th, 2019, 6:58 amNot quite a large enough data set to be a trend, but close.frankiesaysrelax wrote: ↑September 11th, 2019, 9:48 amUSU is 0-540-31 when we don’t score more points than the other team.

That scoring more than the other is a tried and true formula that needs to be utilized more by the coaches.

Agree, scoring more than the other team is a tried and true formula for success, needs to be used by coaches more here.frankiesaysrelax wrote:USU is 0-540-31 when we don’t score more points than the other team.
