Re: Who are the finalists?
Donman - any idea on interest level for Yurcich...both ways...serious or casual inquiry....this is the first I have heard... given the dynamic and explosive kids we have on offense this would be a great hire,,,wondering why the trigger has not been pulled on this...
Re: Who are the finalists?
My interview in a Tremonton Dennys:
Harwell ordered steak and eggs while I had pancakes with whip cream and a chocolate syrup smiley face.
Hartwell Q: Tell me about your overall coaching philosophy.
Me: At the end of the day, it's about execution. We need to make more plays than the opponent.
Hartwell Q: What is your recruiting philosophy?
Me: It's more about the Jimmy's and the Joe's than the X's and the O's.
Hartwell Q: What is your plan for coordinators and position coaches?
Me: Let the players play and the coaches coach.
Hartwell Q: Any final thoughts?
Me: At the end of the day, it's about execution, being smart on offensive and disciplined on defense. We need to play to our strengths and get ahead of the chains.
He said that I said all the right things and will get back to me.

I've become more and more cynical about coaches and their coach-speak over my time in these forums. It's like nails on a chalkboard nowadays

They all it (except Pop and Bilicick) do it because the media and fans parse their every word and crucify them when it doesn't fit their narrative.NVAggie wrote:I've become more and more cynical about coaches and their coach-speak over my time in these forums. Re: Who are the finalists?
I think it depends on the coach, but when you say a lot of words but nothing of substance it gets easy to dig into every word. I don’t have to try and dig into every little word Mike Leach says, because he says exactly what he means.dyedblue wrote: They all it (except Pop and Bilicick) do it because the media and fans parse their every word and crucify them when it doesn't fit their narrative.

Re: Who are the finalists?
There once was a day when I had inside information but that was 25 years ago. For example, I remember talking to Craig Bolerjack after word that Weatherbie was going to be selected as head coach (Weatherbie was truthful when someone called him the day before announcement) even though I knew the truth I said there was no official announcement. I also knew about the changes in football and basketball coaches occurred.Mediocre at Best wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 12:13 amDonman - any idea on interest level for Yurcich...both ways...serious or casual inquiry....this is the first I have heard... given the dynamic and explosive kids we have on offense this would be a great hire,,,wondering why the trigger has not been pulled on this...
Unfortunately, that was long ago and I don't know anyone in the AD's office now.
Anything I post is generally random speculation.

Leach is awesome. His rant on the playoffs was epic

Re: Who are the finalists?
I also met with Hartwell this week. I emphasized my three years in the NFL pointing out that I was ranked in the top 100 in the country my final year. As a top debator at Sky View, I was sure I would be able to talk coach speech with the best and thus keep USUfans.com members and other donors happy. I also brought my vintage NFL game board that I have had since the 70’s and diagramed a few plays and showed him how I would utilize our talent. I think between my experience in the National Forensic League and actual game playing experience, he was impressed.

Re: Who are the finalists?
Looks like Chris Klieman may be headed to Kansas State and North Texas will keep their coach. Not sure why some people on here weren’t interested in looking at Klieman. Apparently he’s good enough for a decent P5 team. I would wish him well but frankly, due to their fans, I hope KState loses every game they play.....

I have never liked him. I think he is a tool. I have heard from several guys that the only reason he has had any success was because of Jim Jeffcoat. And everything I have hear from players is that is true.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 11:16 am:How do you'll like Mike McIntyre pure speculation on my part....but one of his commits from CU is coming on a OV

Re: Who are the finalists?
KJ Trujillo really liked us early and we were his first offer but the allure of P5 offers got the best of him. Now that he is back on the market I think we'll actually sign this kid. Especially with Frank and Stacy on top of things.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 11:16 am:How do you'll like Mike McIntyre pure speculation on my part....but one of his commits from CU is coming on a OV

Re: Who are the finalists?
Agreed. I have never thought highly of him at all. He also seems to have had a career of "good timing", always being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time more than earning anything on his own merit.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 12:12 pmI have never liked him. Re: Who are the finalists?
So Hartwell is getting his way? If GA wasn't the one to pull his name from consideration, I wonder how this will sit with the big booster(s)?
I am beginning to think this hire will be just like basketball, some guy from the outside, and we won't have a good idea about what we have until next Spring.

This makes me sad. Now I’m really interested to see who this external hire will be that is a better candidate.

Re: Who are the finalists?
A decision that stemmed from USU giving Gary's best foot forward a luke warm response. Gary has a great gig right now. Why would if he leave if USU is acting it doesn't even really want him?ratofallaggies wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 1:37 pmDidn't have to do with JH. Those seem like five great options. I know Frank is young and probably the lowest on the list but we must retain him as an assistant. He has been key to our recruiting.ratofallaggies wrote: ↑December 7th, 2018, 1:39 pmI don't know all of them, and there are probably more, but here's who I know that has/will interviewed....

I also know that Hartwell tried to hire Matt Lubick last year as our OC. Tell me more about Baldwin? Successful fcs head coach then being a coordinator at cal hasn’t actually been great. Cals offense is not good.
