Full Mountain West Bowl Lineup - Discussion

Post by rAggie » December 2nd, 2018, 11:59 am

Compiled this as a consensus of all the projections out there. Lots of reaction that it is BS Nevada would get Army and not USU, but I'm not sure where the Armed Forces would get to pick versus New Mexico as they're not an official tie in bowl. Nevada also finished strong so isn't an unattractive candidate.

Stay tuned.

They're saying BYU vs. Ohio in the Potato Bowl. Wondering why Wyoming didn't get consideration in there. Does anyone know how the MW bowl tie in to the Potato Bowl works?

At least we missed the potato, but we should be in that armed forces slot.

Up for discussion - this is the consensus of the projections that are out there.

North Texas to NM has been all but confirmed. BYU vs. Ohio in the Potato Bowl has a lot of traction.

I can’t find consistent payout levels. Is armed forces higher?

Also, it’s ridiculous that BYU gets a MWC tie in game with a MWC team out.

Our commissioner is terrible. Our games don’t get viewed by larger audiences and we can’t even get into our own damn bowls that our teams qualify for.

I don’t understand how Thompson still has a job.

The conference also got some bowl games where we don't have a tie in. A trade was likely made.

Armed Forces or AZ would be much better for us given our coaching situation since they are later. If the Armed Forces Bowl is available it should be us or Boise, not Nevada who lost to UNLV.

ESPN must have rights to the Potato Bowl and had to figure out a way to get BYU a bowl game with their contract obligation. I love that we view this as one of the crappiest bowl options available to us and BYU may be the one going. That makes me feel better about our misfortunes, knowing that their fan base has to take this one on the chin.

Then why did you title the thread as 'FULL MOUNTAIN WEST BOWL LINEUP - DISCUSSION'?

This should have been titled 'FULL MOUNTAIN WEST BOWL LINEUP - SPECULATION'

Words matter, FFS. I grow supremely weary of rAggie's BS.

Weee other conferences able to fill Frisco? Did we have the secondary tie in?

Either way the fact this is a problem means Thompson is garbage. I understand that pro commissioners keep their jobs because they move to benefit owners. Has Thompson done a good job benefiting the member institutions?

Utah State loses 2 games narrowly to teams that were ranked at the time and wins 10 and ended up in the New Mexico. What is the story on this?

We deserve better, but it could have been worse. Also, with bowl pairings what 8 learned last year is it isn't done until it is announced officially.

For personal reasons I'm ok with NM.

Also, kind of concerned with how we are going to play. Playing another team with a defecting coach would level the playing field...

As for our bowl, I care most about being on the best network and a high payout.

I thought New Mexico had a higher payout. However, I can see why people would want Armed Forces.

I blame Wells more than anything. Right now we have 1 interim coach who may or may not be around. Other bowls said they are factoring it in. If you’re going to leave don’t harm your team. Wells gutted us in multiple ways. In my opinion.

Isn't Boise to Frisco and Fresno to Vegas. Fresno is a done deal

It sounds like Boise is playing in the Dallas First Responders bowl against Boston college.

Fresno is in the Las Vegas bowl against ASU.

Wyoming is left out.

Hard to make a case for us over Boise in the First Responder, but a game against BC would have been a winnable game against a P5.

All things considered, we got exactly what we deserved.

I think the first responder wanting boise instead of byu got us out of the potato and stuck the boogers with it. They were projected for the first responder at one time. If that is how it worked out, I love it.

ESPN controls the whole bowl season, they are looking out for themselves and could care less about tie ins..

If only UCF would have lost, then Fresno to Fiesta, Boise to Vegas, and us to First Responder Bowl. That would have been awesome to play BC, but North Texas is not bad. Should have beat Boise...

Wiki is not a credible source, but I'll post it anyway,

Payouts:
Las Vegas Bowl- $2,700,000
New Mexico Bowl- $1,050,000
Frisco Bowl - $750,000
Armed Forces Bowl - $900,000
Hawaii Bowl- $1,000,000
Arizona Bowl- $412,920

Austin Steven's going to North Texas is not the bottom line!

I don't care much about the payout for these bowls. I want a good opponent in a nice location. I think we got a decent bowl and need to go win it.

Agreed, this appears to be a winnable game to me.

....and the payout is nice for our next coaching staff.
