Toa Taua
He was discussed in the December 2018 signing day thread, but as a reminder hes a 4 star RB that will be making his decision on Saturday during the Polynesian bowl. His final three are USU, Nevada and Iowa State.
Anyone have any insight into our chances? Iowa State is a P5 school with a good coach, and his older brother played and coaches for Nevada. Would be a huge get if we could beat those two schools for his services.
Here is an article with more info on him: http://www.rgj.com/story/sports/college ... 044983001/

Maybe the rumors of players not liking the coaches are exaggerated? Or he didn't catch on? Good that our coaching staff is able to get the attention of this recruit. Sadly, I'm expecting him to go to Reno.

Re: Toa Taua
I would love to see him in Aggie Navy Blue, but I have a feeling he is going to wind-up at Iowa State in the Big 12. Maybe we can get him to transfer here after he becomes disenchanted there.

Re: Toa Taua
That's a great point. I looked it up and UNR hasn't had a player drafted in the last 3 years. They have one lineman prospect who is expected to be drafted in the 4-6th round this year. They haven't had a RB drafted since '89.
We should have a good argument of getting him to the NFL.

It actually seems to me as though Wells has made a concerted effort to improve in this area.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑January 18th, 2018, 12:57 pm"Utah State, I liked how the coaches treated the players, and I just like the whole vibe up there."VegasAggie71 wrote: ↑January 18th, 2018, 12:32 pmHe was discussed in the December 2018 signing day thread, but as a reminder hes a 4 star RB that will be making his decision on Saturday during the Polynesian bowl. Re: Toa Taua
No way he’s coming without a larger athletic budget and/or a contract extension for Wells.

Re: Toa Taua
USU coaches should be pointing out these stats from the past five years to drive home the point:
Since 2012
Utah State - 10 total players drafted / 4 RB's
Iowa State - 4 total players drafted / 0 RB's
Nevada - 3 total players drafted / 0 RB's
If playing at the next level is his goal then I think the choice is rather easy between these schools. just sayin'

The fact is, and it's not just Wells but every football coach, and not even just football coaches but all college sports coaches, coaches are alot nicer to kids when they are recruiting them than they are to the kids after they get them up here and are in practices and competition

An yet, they haven't had an RB drafted in 5 years despite supposedly getting superior talent every year. Hmmmm.

Re: Toa Taua
Iowa State has suffered for many years they now have a good coach. They recently did a stadium expansion to 61,000 seats as a B-12 school they have a lot to offer a recruit. I hope USU can land him, but it would be a real upset if that happens.
If a recruit is good enough the NFL will find them, even at a B-12 school, or USU, Reno.
They won the Liberty bowl this year, and had nearly 30,000 fans travel to the game, I believe they beat Oklahoma this season that would make them a up and coming school, very hard to beat for a recruit.

Everyone who has a Twitter on here need to go show Toa some love before tonight. He’d be a huge commit.

I have no inside information but I'd be pleasantly surprised if he committed here. It appears that he had a friend commit to Iowa state recently and if I were betting I would say he becomes a cyclone.

Playing time would be a major incentive for committing to a school. Also, a serious student athlete should be interested in what educational options there were for him including study halls and tutorial assistance. .

Re: Toa Taua
It's okay. I would have been excited to get him but on to the next one. We don't get them all. We have four spots left and we brought in two kids this weekend that would be awesome to see in Aggie Blue!

Re: Toa Taua
Agreed 22. Glad he is staying in our conference. The conference as a whole needs to get guys like that. Would have preferred usu to get him but happy for Nevada.
22-What positions are we trying to fill for those 4 spots. Is it just best available or are we trying to nab another running back?
