SITE 404 Not Found Issue

Post by Aglicious » November 5th, 2010, 6:01 pm

I have been in communication with the host of the site and they are aware of the issues that we are experiencing. Apparently the server we happened to be placed on is having known issues and has been reported by many other sites that happen to be on the same server. They are working on a permanent fix and have said it won't take long.

Apologies to those of you who have tried to access it during the brief moments it was down this afternoon but it is something that is beyond our control. If the problem persists however we have other options available and will make the changes necessary to make sure we don't experience these type of problems in the future.

I'm curious who was doing your hosting, and who is doing it now?

It's GoDaddy and it was before. The original server that we were located on had some major problems. They were unable to repair the server so instead they moved the site over to a new one. Both Aglicious and I have used GoDaddy in the past for multiple projects and neither of us had ever seen these types of problems...in fact, BigBlueChat was always on a GoDaddy server.

I used to have GoDaddy, too, but switched to a cheaper hosting provider (webhostingpad.com, I think). I mostly just didn't like how they set up their email. I also didn't really need all that much to begin with, so even if the new guys aren't as dependable it should still be worth the few bucks a year I'm saving.

Glad to hear that GoDaddy is taking care of you guys, though. The site has been running really smooth the past couple of days.

I don't like GoDaddy's e-mail solutions either. For my personal e-mail I've using Google Apps for Domains. They let you setup GMail using your own domain name and logo for free. If you're a fan of GMail then I highly recommend it.

Really? Man! I wish I knew that before I set myself up with another hosting service. The email is one of the main reasons I keep this domain. I've never really done much with the website itself, although it's at least set up as a blog now. I've got like four or five entries over the past three months.

If you'd like to switch to the Google apps then it isn't difficult. There is more information here:
http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html
I was originally using Outlook with my GoDaddy POP3 account and ended up uploading all of my messages into GMail so I didn't lose anything. I mostly did it because I was getting an Android phone.
