WTHCG - We will stay in D1 FCS for week 2, and have a Utah/Iowa faceoff! The Southern Utah Thunderbirds venture out of the Big Sky into the Missouri Valley and my backyard to face off against the Northern Iowa Panthers. The Thunderbirds were 1-10 last year and return two quarterbacks who each started 4 games. Their Center Zach Larsen was named Pre-Season FCS All-American by STATS, HERO Sports and Athlon Sports. SUU plays at UNLV to start the season before heading to Cedar Falls.
The Panthers kickoff their season at Ames against Iowa State (catch it on FS1 Sat 8/31 10am) before hosting the T-birds. Last year UNI ended the season 7-6 losing to UC Davis in the 2nd round of the FCS Playoffs. They are picked #20 in the FCS Coaches Preseason Poll and #18 in the STATS Preseason Poll
