What game was it in the 1990s where they used a helicopter to dry the field? For some reason I am thinking vs. Idaho in '96. Anyone remember for sure?

Re: Coaching Candidates
My brother played for Gary and then Wells at USU. Talking with him today, he said he’s heard from several coaches/players he is in touch with that at least part of Hartwell moving on from Gary was that Gary refused to fire some combination of Reeder/Maile/Collins as coordinators, when Hartwell told...

Re: Fcs coaches to fbs
I kind of think that one of the things an FCS head coach needs is some experience in an FBS program. If you look at Arslanian, the highest profile school he ever coached at was one year as a GA at Arizona State when there was no FCS/1-AA, and the Sun Devils were members of the WAC. Mick Dennehy had ...

Re: Gary Fired!!!?!?!!
I get the impression, and I have to emphasize that it is just an impression, that the reason behind Gary's termination is not going to be found in any police reports. I do also agree, that as a high profile, highly paid, public employee, if he was fired for cause, the public should know the reasons ...

Re: Gary Fired!!!?!?!!
I am sure terminating Gary was not easy for Hartwell but kudus to him for putting the university and its athletes needs above all else. I am thinking most of are worried that it was actually easy for Hartwell to fire Gary. I just cannot fathom any reason why a financially strapped athletic departme...

Re: Gary Fired!!!?!?!!
People should stop with all the accusations against Gary. Sure he had some issue and struggled this time around, but i am forever grateful for what he did the first time around. I don't like the accusations and stuff either. But the situation at Oregon State and now here at USU are both very odd. I...

Re: Building continuity, Can we do it?
Interesting to take a look at BYU's FB history. Until the mid 1960's BYU played in literally half a stadium and had a hard time filling it. Then htey decided to improve the program. They constructed the first phase of a new stadium and gave away thousands of tickets to LDS youth who came to games w...

The one punt led to a safety so I would say that worked out well. At the same time you can't play conservative. Nevada went for it on 4th lots of times and that must bread a lot of confidence with the players that their coach is going to be aggressive. I love that mindset, Bosie does it all the tim...

I haven't paid any attention to Matt Wells since he left. I didn't realize he was only 5-11 overall there. I'd be surprised if he is their coach next year.

I've only ever sent time in Odessa (long story) and Dallas. Flown over the state many times. Not much to see IMHO. Re: Thompson announces Boise may play less conference games to play BYU
I would love to see Boise suffer the consequences for begging out of a conference game to play BYU. But if they go 7-0, they will be undefeated in the division. The team that Boise skips will also only play 7 conference games, so they can't go 7-1. It is possible that both Boise and that other team...

Wasn't there a report out of the Big Ten recently that showed something like 30% of student athletes who have tested positive for Covid are now showing signs of myocarditis? An injury to a scout team player is almost like a career death sentence. I wish him the best but he certainly has a daunting task to convince another team to take a chance on him. Sad news. Really wish he had been able to stay healthy. While you aren't going to get rich, a guy can make a decent liv...

Really easy to ask a bunch of kids to put their long term health on the line when you don't have any skin in the game. You’re not looking at the scientific data if you think it poses a significant health risk to young healthy college students. You’re fear mongering. But yeah, don’t want to play ? D...

Re: What does the college FB landscape look like going forward?
I think an 8 team playoff in this format: 5 teams representing the champion from each P5 conference 2 at large teams 1 team represented from the G5 conferences This gives a team from each P5 conference a playoff chance, gives you the two at-large teams, and also keeps the magic of a Cinderella team...

The NFL can find a way to give every team an equal chance at winning its championsh...

They may unionize themselves out of a place to play ball where people care and want to watch them. I can really see this going toward the end result of universities being scholastic only with no sponsorship of intercollegiate athletic competition. Why would they agree to some of the demands being t...

Nolan Ryan's strikeout and no-hitter records. Not for lack of talent, but for the same reason Cy Young's win total will never be reached, pitchers are used far differently, and pitch far less, than they used to. Eight times in his career he started 35 games or more in a season, and in 1974 he starte...

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
If BYU is going to exist, and circumstances were normal, I'd want to play them. But I cannot overlook almost 50 years of them doing everything they can to screw USU by destroying the Skyline Conference, blackballing USUs membership in the WAC, and later MWC, to "The Project" of the early 2010s. So i...

If we are losing the Washington money game, I'd personally rather see the MWC do a conference only schedule. Maybe a full round robin schedule of 11 games, then a championship game. I really was hoping to see BYU sh.. themselves when they had very few chances to fit together a schedule, especially a...

BYU is not going to a P5 conference. The Big-12 has zero incentive to add (other than perhaps for a one season thing due to Covid 19) and will most likely look east if they do add. IMHO Central Florida is the top option that is not currently affiliated with a P5 conference. They meet every single me...
