Re: Please dear God, don't allow me to do this again.
It is true Astroman that we have unknowns and there is a remote chance of a 1-6 start based on the difficultly of those first 7 games. That being said, there is not one game on our schedule where we don't have a fighter's chance of winning. We have the ponies and mental toughness to be competitive a...

Jack Trice stadium at Iowa State sells tickets to sit on grassy hills in the corners. I've watched a few games from the frozen ground there in late November before.

One other comparison between Quayle and Viko that I noticed is that they are both very good rebounding guards. They aren't tall but can jump and have the mindset to go get the ball.

Apparently his scholarship was pulled (or they counseled him out) because they signed a juco player at another position and didn't have enough scholarships for everyone. Not sure if we have a scholarship available or not but the kid looks like a good prospect (Espn 70, 3star). Long armed lefty that ...

I've been impressed with Fred Hoiberg. He's not that young (40ish) but had no coaching experience up until he took over Iowa State a few years ago. Just signed a 10yr deal to keep him in his home town for a while.

Yeah, good point NE. I think they should have never fired Doctor Tom. McCaffrey will get them there though.
Alford can recruit but just can't coach. You have to be able to do some in-game coaching to go far in the tournament.

Re: Alford to UCLA?
Big mistake for UCLA and a blessing for the Lobos. UNM had hit their ceiling with Alford. Alford is notorius for making a run in his conference and then exiting the Dance early. That is why he got run out of Iowa. He will do the same thing in LA, mark my word. Neil was with him here in Iowa and will...

Re: The where do you stand thread.
I think we have a chance to represent well in the MWC next year. I think the top two teams will be NM and Boise, with NM having the edge, and SDSU and UNLV close behind. I think we'll be in the next group along with UNR and FSU, and possibly CSU if Larry can rebuild well. If we show the same toughne...

Re: How's your Bracket doing? (HA HA Gonzaga!)
I too got burned by some early flameouts. I have to give my teenage son some credit though as his two cinderellas were LaSalle and Florida Gulf Coast and he predicted them getting through to the Sweet-16 in his bracket. I am eating crow after making fun of him for those two picks earlier in the week...

Re: Jalen Moore vs Sam Merrill tomorrow
I wouldn't hold the fact that the three BYU commits have played together forever against them. It does show that they are capable of playing good team basketball together and they will infact be playing together in college too. Lone Peak plays BYU style basketball so they should fit in very well wit...

Re: MWC schedule 2013
A couple things stand out to me: - CSU has 5 OC games. Wonder if they will drop one. Maybe MWC will schedule them against Hawaii to bail them out so they can play 13. - Nevada has a killer OC schedule with UCLA, Oregon, and Florida State. - San Jose needs to get more games scheduled. May want to cal...

Any chance it is Jim Leavitt? I'm not sure if he has any ties to Coach Wells. He's the one that built the USF program from scratch. He's the LB position coach for the Niners so perhaps being DC at USU wouldn't really be a super stretch if he decided he'd rather coach college kids.

My two cents after digesting this info and considering the recruiting and coaching changes. Hawaii (18) - They were awful last year but I could see a big step forward for them this year (and the next couple years). They will be in their 2nd year with Chow, have a lot of returners, and have a high ra...

I was also at USU when Larry was there and oddly enough ended up here in Central Iowa to catch the last few seasons of him and Bruce Van De Velde at ISU. People around both programs liked Larry and felt he was a great coach. He had a couple tremendous years as ISU and I'll never forget Larry's epic ...

Apparently the best OOC record in the country this year, at least according to what I heard on TV tonight. I was watching the SDSU and Fresno game. Fresno has the worst OOC record in the MWC but looked young and hungry tonight and nearly pulled off the big upset (missed a 3 to tie it at the buzzer)....

I actually really like that 16 team proposal. I like the groupings for the pods too but I don't think Wyoming would be too happy. I'm sure they would rather trade places with us and be with their long time mates (CSU & AF). I could be happy in either pod. For hoops I'd suggest playing home/home with...

Tater Bowl official said on Full Court Press that he anticipated getting the loser of the MAC Championship game if the winner doesn't get into BCS. He thought thec Pizza bowl would take Bowling Green because of proximity to Detroit. Hope that's the case as a match-up against Kent would be great.

Wow. Chuckie 2.0 I have been concerned that our current offense would have to morph into something different after Chuckie leaves based on the QB's currently in the system. I have to say I love our current offense and the balanced mix of run, pass, and option. We wouldn't have to change a thing if t...

I see there is a sophmore OL on Granger named Wyate Lapuaho (6'1", 260). Anyone know if this is one of Al's lil' bros? Not being from Utah, I'm not familiar with the various demographics around the Valley but I'm guessing West Valley is a popular Poly locale. A ton of big poly boys on that team.

I typically don't like to relive those types of heartbreaking games either but my family wants to see what they looked like on TV.
I'd also like to see the replay of Bartlett's offensive pass interference play in the final minute and hear the commentary on that call.

I had a very similar experience as NEIowa, which would be expected seeing as we parked in the same lot (purely by coincidence), brought kids of similar age, went to the same pregame functions, and sat in the same section.
