Who will be the next 2000 point scorer?

In this week’s coaches show Smith did mention Liam as one of the most improved players on the team since last summer, in addition to Dorius and I think Bairstow. Bodes well for the future. Speaking of future, how good is Marco Anthony? Of course he won’t score 2000 in two years , but is he capable o...

2020 WR's

I've enjoyed the frequent articles regarding the position groups that Des News has been putting out. This recent one on the wide receivers got me thinking about our situation for the upcoming season. https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/3/3/21131881/utah-state-football-aggies-wide-receivers-jordan-na...

Uh, Queta had 8 turn overs. He had a double double and played well generally but man he was a turnover machine tonight.

Re: Who will be the next 2000 point scorer?

I may be executed for saying this, but Brock Miller probably has the best chance of the existing players by my estimation. Either him or Bean. Miller has averaged high single digits in this first 2 seasons. If he averages around 19+ points a game for the next two seasons he would reach 2000. If he ...

Re: Interview with RB signing John Gentry

It will be real interesting to see the friendly competition between Gentry and Noa. Glad we got them both as they are both pretty versatile. Noa seems to be great at being patient and finding the seams and has a bit more wiggle to him, but Gentry has breakaway speed and is a terrific pass catcher as...

2020 MW Football Schedule

Bye after the Washington game to heal up prior to the Friday BYU game is good although our bye is fairly early in the season. Would rather have the bye before SDSU or Boise but maybe we can be prepared to storm Lavell’s palace. That opening home game against Wazzou with all the students is going to ...

Re: At Large Bid

If we lose a close game in the semi's to say Nevada, Boise, CSU, or maybe UNLV, and then they lose a close one in the final to SDSU, I think we are still on the right side of the bubble. If anyone other than us or SDSU wins the tourney, we are NIT bound.

Re: Miller 1st half: 0-5 fg, 0-4 3pt

Miller is in the top 5 in the conference (and leads the team) in a few categories related to taking care of the ball. Maybe Smith likes the fact that he doesn’t turn it over. I’m sure many of you will claim that is because he shots it as soon as he gets it. Every shot is pretty much a TO so that st...

Rest In Peace Coach Shelton! Chuck’s last year (‘91) was my freshman year at USU. I remember his hat. Interesting how good of career record he had in conference (60%) but how awful our non-conf record was (1-23). Then again our non-conf schedule in 1991 was @ Utah, @ Nebraska, @ Oklahoma, and @ BYU...

Our schedule is a rough one. Here are our road games: @ Washington @ BYU @ CSU @ Wyoming @ Boise @ Nevada How many of those do we think we'll win? One? Two? Then we have Washington State, SDSU and Air Force at home and they'll all be tough. Southern Utah and New Mexico are the only ones I expect to...

On another note, I saw that Crew Wakley is home from his mission and listed in our 2020 signing class. He’s listed as an athlete (6-2, 190 out of HS), but was a very productive dual threat qb in high school and 2 time district MVP out of Sandy. He was a very hard nosed player in HS and I imagine And...

Recruiting

Conlin seems very much like a Nick Heninger type player to me. Similar size and skill set. Nick was a walk on at the U but battled and worked and earned a scholarship there before transferring here. Both seem to have a motor and lots of desire. Just like Nick I think he’ll end up making an impact.

So we have 3 schollie rb’s in Warren, Noa, and Afatasi correct? Two of those are freshmen. Gentry would be as well. So, besides Gentry it would be good to get a juco or grad transfer. Wonder if we may have to play Duncan some at rb if we get in a pinch, like we did with Vigil that one year. ...and ...

Re: Run DHC?

So we’re going to be rolling out and banking on two freshman? I think we need 2 more RBs — Gentry and one more — a JUCO or grad transfer. We need five running backs in the rotation? Most programs prefer having 5 scholarship running backs. We currently have 2. So we have 3 schollie rb’s in Warren, N...

We started to love the 3 too much during that crucial second half drought. Should have taken it inside more. Although it is hard when we couldn’t get a call the entire second half when getting hammered every time we went to the rim.

So..... moving on from this guy. Still think we need another RB. We're going to get John Gentry so that's a plus. I'd rather have Gentry than get Henry-Cole. Agree. Re: Staff Shakeup Ena out as DC

I'm not sure we can fairly evaluate next year's LBs from what we saw on the field this year. I have hopes for Simon Thompson if he's put on some good muscle after a year in the program, we'll have a couple of newcomers, and I wonder if Daniel Langi (was a great HS LB), or Justus Te'i will move from...

Good call. It’ll be interesting to see what the staff does with Logan Lee this year. He’s a good athlete that seems to have been underutilized up until now. With Repp gone he likely gets some more playing time. I could see him fit into this new TE/HB position though.

I do think Derek Wright can play a bigger role in 2020 and Ajani will take a step forward in year 2. It'll be interesting to see how he does. I never did really see him as a guy that would flourish in being the face of a program and out in front of everyone all the time.
