Re: An Offseason Thread
Falslev! Falslev, Shulga, Ashworth, and Phelps look good. Zee shown some ability to bring the ball up. Falslev and Phelps look great on paper. Falslev and Johnson were reported to be very good and could start or contribute this season. I think we look something like this: Ashworth, Falslev, *Need* ...

The AP poll has some genius giving Mississippi Valley St. (1-9) #362 out of 363 in NET votes. In fact they have as many votes as we do. The fact they got 4 votes might mean that more than one voter gave them some love. Very credible polling, indeed. There's a misconception about what the number nex...

Re: Ashworth and Shulga are the first Free Throw machines since Merrill
Free throws have made a difference but I'd argue it's not what Ashworth and Shulga are doing at the line that's made a difference. Akin's been doing very well on free throws which is big since he's taking the most free throws of anyone on the team. He went 0-4 in the first game but he's made 30-41 s...

Re: What can be done to keep control of NIL?
I've never known too much about how recruiting really works, including under-the-table stuff (before and after NIL). But in my potentially underinformed opinion, I don't think anything has really changed, especially for a smaller school like USU. The best recruits are going to the best programs just...

https://twitter.com/BensHoops/status/1408217590229438464?s=20 Perhaps noteworthy is the fact that none of these teams has a 2nd round pick (Lakers have 22, Phoenix has 29, Portland and Dallas both have zero picks as of now). Talking to Queta is probably part of their due diligence to potentially bu...

Re: Travis Wagstaff
I think he could be a better shooter than his percentage last year indicates. He took over 7 threes per game which means plenty of those were lower percentage looks. If he passes up the lesser looks, he's probably in the 36-37 percent range. His high volume of threes also drags down the 42% overall ...

Re: Smith hire looking like a train wreck for the U
The thing about Smith is he's a heck of a coach. The Aggies were very good on defense even aside from Queta's influence and the offense overachieved last year based on the lack of talent it had. But good recruiting outdoes good coaching, and I'm not sure Smith can recruit at the level he'll have to....

Re: New guy (Muzamil Ameer Hamoda)
Could be a Queta-level steal, though I highly doubt he could be as effective year one as Queta was. But that athleticism on the wing is something that's really hard to land at a program like ours. Looking at his most recent action (that I can find stats for), he averaged 23.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, ...

Re: Worster 3 pt %
There's promise for his 3-point shooting as he was solid, even elite at times in HS. These are his numbers
Senior - 33%
Junior - 41%
Soph - 38%
Fresh - 35%
OVERALL - 36.7%
He averaged around 5 attempts each season in HS.

Re: Better, worse, or the same as last year?
Inconsistency will be a theme this season. The raw talent on this team is much higher than last year but experience and some skill is lacking. I think that experience/skill really helped last year in the MW Tourney but a lack of it could end the season early and/or result in more losses than expecte...

@22, Now that they've practiced and got some time together, does your other previous statement hold true, that Zapala is too good to redshirt? A lot of hate being thrown at the "Best Defenders" list for not including Queta. How is Ashworth quick and fast but not very athletic? Does not really compute (unless he is weak and can’t jump) I should have specified that I view speed, quickness and athleticism as three separate, though obviously related, traits. Athleticism is probably the only one of those three I'd struggle...

Is Merrill more or less athletic than Joe Ingles? Ingles is widely considered to be a good defender, is he not? He had 2 or 3 inches on Merrill, but could Merrill not defend as well as Ingles? This is probably the best argument for Merrill's potential to be a plus defender IMO and I like the compar...

Its so odd to me that Sam is considered somewhat of a liability on defense when he spend 3 years playing 35 min a game usually defending the other teams best shooter. Interesting. Really ugly shot and does not have a quick release, but those percentages are definitely nothing to sneeze at. I think out of Shulga, Ashworth and Worster, I'd say Ashworth holds the bragging rights for steepest competition faced and most baller line against said competition (29 pts, 10 ast, 5 reb, 7-14 3pt shooting, 9-22 FG) but the thing with Ashworth is that was just one game so you have to pump the brake...

Not sure how you could even put BYU on a list like that. On paper, sure they probably got it right but so much goes into hiring the coach that it's not a conventional landing spot. I have no clue how Air Force gets above USU but I can see Wyoming and maybe CSU being above. The Aggies are clearly the...
