Re: Love's next season
Now that the draft is near, it reminds me that I was fairly critical of Love's potential as an NFL QB. I thought he had a horrible senior year at USU and his poor play cost the team. He also had some off-field issues. I didn't think he was mobile enough to be successful in the NFL. Turns out the Pa...

Re: 2024 Utah State Spring Football Mid-Spring Depth Chart
Ike really tailed off performance wise in the last few games. Seems like there were some reports about an injury but the guy still got out there and played. Was it worse than reported? And, if it was worse than reported, is he recovered? I think teams began scheming away from Ike and that might be ...

You do not become a multi-time High School FB, Wrestling, and Javelin Champ State Champ without a bit of competitive "juice" flowing through your veins. And you don't come back from a substantial injury to play again at the FBS collegiate level without that same "juice". Barring another injury, I w...

Re: 2024 USU FOOTBALL SPRING BALL: The Quarterback Battle
For now it would seem: Coop and/or Petras Hillstead Barnes Petras/Hillstead process field easily the best and make quickest and best reads and use the entire offense. Negative; Hillstead size is limiting whereas Petras quite tall and sees field nicely! Also Hillstead throws by far the best and most...

Re: 2024 USU FOOTBALL SPRING BALL: The Quarterback Battle
My question is which qb is processing the defense the best and can go through his progressions quickly. Something that was a struggle last year. great point Hillstead was fine with his timing in the pocket until he took that vicious double helmet to the head shot. I hope he's fully recover...

I was most impressed with Josh Jacobs before he got his big raise with the Raiders. His average YPC dropped from about 5 to 3.5 from 2022 to 2023. Maybe he had a down year with the Raiders, but hopefully, he'll pick it back up for Love and GB. The Raiders QBs were Jimmy Garoppolo and Aiden O’Connel...

Is this the best season of Aggie basketball ever? Kinda feels like it could be. With the level of competition we have faced, I think this is definitely the best Aggie basketball season ever. The 1969-1970 Marv Roberts/Nate Williams team made it to the Elite Eight, where they lost to eventual champi...

I actually like that these morons don't know anything about Logan. A bar used to be a big thing because that was the ONLY PLACE you could get an adult beverage served to you. Not getting into the weeds so deep. I spoke to a member of the coaching staff at a game early in the season (very early) and he told me that he felt that this team was capable of winning an NCAA tourney game. As I watch the season play out, I'm trying to change my mind set. Sure, we want to win out ...

The NBA comish spoke to Chris Paul about the all Star game last year and asked what he could do to make the game better. Make it a competitive game not just a shoot around. Paul told him to cut all the pre-game and halftime concerts etc. The comish did just that and this was still the worst all star...

Re: Some defensive coordinators ARE fired over ONE game
Here in Niner country everyone is in lockstep with Shanahan. How can you not be? He's a winner, but IMHO his arrogance is over the top. You have someone like that as a coach, eventually his bad mojo gets in the players heads, and they fold under pressure. It's good to hear from outside sources. Chec...

Bosa just said that he doesn't think Love has been forced to pass under pressure. Dallas tried to pressure him. How did that work out? Re: A lot of scholarships being used now on the DL
Great info Roy! Thanks for sharing. The highest paid DLinemen in the NFL are now interior guys (Tackles). Tackles that can get to the QB and run stopping anchors in the middle of the DL are the secret sauce for great defenses. 49er's Coach and GM are open about their team success being a function of...

Re: Defensive scheme: Updates?
I know we just hired our new DC, but are we hearing anything about a switch in our base scheme? Would be amazing to run a 3-4 or 3-3-5 as our base and we should have multiple different schemes depending on what the offense is doing and our strengths. Multiple is the keyword. Just read the Deseret a...

One of the other things that can easily be done with a 3 3 5 is essentially a 5 man front too that can on certain calls really limits the run/pass read responsibilities of everyone and thus eliminate some of the disadvantages of only six defenders via both pre-snap disguise and easy run/pass assign...

Re: What do we want from our offense?
Nick Saban (I think it was him) said something that was interesting to me after he the lost the playoff game to Michigan. In college football the hurry-up, no-huddle offense is the trend. Nick Saban commented how all year their defense has been able to see how the offense lines up (and then stares ...

This is now updated with Switzer planning to gain 20 lbs and play LB full time next year. (Players in blue are new). It honestly looks somewhat promising to me. I can't imagine we have another bottom 10 defense with this group :noidea: WILL (weakside outside linebacker): Max Alford (6-1, 235, R-So....

What do we want from our offense?
Only fair. We have the end of season stats and the games are still fresh. Hire an OC to call plays. Run a pro-style offense. No more up-tempo unless we're behind by 3 scores. Line our WR's up normally (away from the out of bounds line) so that DB's have to cover our WR's running pass routes both way...

Nmsu ran a 3-3-5 last year. 👀 Meh maybe as a basic concept. If you watch their film it looks more like a 4-3, 4-2, or 3-4. I've brought this up on the board before, very few good coaches in today's game run a true base defense. I would say 80% of the time the weakside backer is lined up as a stand ...
