Re: Congrats Sam Merrill

Heard through the grapevine that Sam collects a cool half million in addition to his ring.

Also heard that he is a bigger part of the Bucks future plans than this year's minutes may indicate.

Easy to be happy for the young man.

Re: Interview with Coach Odom

I enjoyed the interview. I keep thinking that having grown up in a coaching family with a father who was very successful in the ACC (240 wins in 12 years) is bound to be beneficial. Dave Odom was a three-time coach of the year in the ACC when it was a smaller league with Mike Krzyzewski and Dean Smi...

Re: Sammy is IN!

Although I recognize that this thread is referencing the NBA it is worth noting that perhaps the greatest former Aggie in an American professional basketball league could well be Marv Roberts. He was in the ABA but at a time where the ABA was close enough to the NBA in credibility that they merged. ...

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again

In spite of the fact that several people are less than happy about the field, `a case can be made that it doesn't deserve the turned up noses. The following numbers come from Ken Pom's year-end stats: Average of MBC teams: 118.75 Average of MWC teams: 163.09 Average of MBC teams without USU (sort of...

Re: Jaycee Article

Imagine being the Wyoming coach who couldn't even be bothered to make the time to go watch a kid who is averaging nearly 40 points per game when he's playing in your own town, then watching him go on to become the top scorer in USU history. The coach apparently fell into the trap of "he didn't play...

Threadjack alert!!!

Son, we need a point GOD. In 1980, USU was invited to and attended the Inbank Classic in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a 4-team tournament where the Aggies first night opponent was Michigan State - the national champion from two seasons before. The game was broadcast on the fledgling ESPN networ...

I agree we should recruit over guys on the roster that are unlikely to contribute. I recently had a long conversation with a friend who worked as the compliance staff member for a DI university. A bad combination

Most freshman basketball players are teenagers. I would hazard a guess that some of my flakiest behavior took place during those golden years. And now that I have grandchildren approaching that age I have to admit that trying to get a teenager to behave in a way that makes sense to my mind is very m...

Doing a little digging I discovered that Dave Odom (Ryan’s dad) recruited by a player from the Virgin Islands who played at WFU for four years. He went on to a career in the NBA. 19 years with the SA Spurs. Hope that there’s something in the family genes for coaches. I could enjoy watching Tim Dunca...

He mentioned some players were not there. Any idea who those players were, or why they were not there?

Re: We got the home run hire in Odom.

I loved the fact that instead of wearing the badge of "We won as a 16-seed" he acknowledged that that same team had a 40-point loss to Albany. Did anyone else already know this? Apparently the 40-point loss didn't destroy his team. Instead they were able to overcome the hiccup. That requires a solid...

What's the story behind him getting kicked out? I am not sure what the first technical was for - they may have been back-to-back. But Seth was protesting the foul call that was the fifth foul on one of his players. Eventually it led to him getting his second technical and ejection. As he left the b...

This is the first time I have liked Seth Greenberg for quite a while. I laughed out loud.

So do you think that if he came to do a broadcast that he'd be willing to do it from the tunnel as a throwback?

There are so many things to look for in a coach, but we are in a new situation that I think deserves attention. I want a coach who has dealt with Covid issues - cancellations, rescheduling, testing, etc. I don't want it to be new again. I want a coach who has experienced the "free year" from the NCA...

Vivid memories of screaming at my radio in my downstairs bedroom when McMullin hit the 3/4 court shot for the win. I remember the silence even over the radio. Beautiful. Saw the replay on the 10 o’clock news. We actually had family flying in that night for Christmas about 10:30. So the carload of A...

I'm thinking he has already learned some things. In his press conference I read that he declared that their facilities were state-of-the-art and that their fan support has energy and passion. What I think he has learned is that the curtains that were hung in the Huntsman Center to block of the upper...

Otzelberger has previously been on the Iowa State bench for about 10 years. Does he like ISU more than LV?
If he were to leave are there any big name coaches taking Iona to the Big Dance?
If the Lobo board is correct it could lead to father-son competition in the MWC.

ESPN says the shot 34.6 % from 3. Very similar to us in that regard.
Ken_Pom agrees with the 34.6%. He also shows them at #301 in % of 3Pt shots attempted/total.

They don't shoot terribly (#124 rating) but they shoot much fewer than the average.

From https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/team/stats/_/id/2641 TT looks like they play a lot of players. 9 players averaged over 10 minutes per game but two of those have quit the team. Several schools apparently opted out of NIT invites. Since the NIT is sponsored and run by the NCAA, I would hope that any team that thumbs their nose at the NIT would be eliminated from fill-in consideration for the Big Dance.

For years, USU could not win a game against SDSU. Almost as if some sort of mystique was playing into the outcome. SDSU has only had 6 total losses in the last two years. That is an unbelievable stretch. Of those 6, 3 have come against the same team And if you go back to the post-season of 2019, 4 o...
