Re: If I had a time machine

At UNLV, Miller was 1-7. Rest of the team was 1-12. Vs BYU, Miller was 1-3. Rest of the team was 5-18. SDSU, Miller was 0-3. Rest of the team was 6-20. BSU, Miller was 0-3. Rest of the team was 6-25. Miller’s 2-16 over those games is dismal. But the rest of the team being 18-75 is very telling as we...

Re: Bracket website (LONG)

I wonder if the big ten will get that many teams seems at some point the top teams will kill off the hopes a double digit bids. I agree. These details have a lot of games left to work through. For example, in Massey's ratings (not that he is the best, perhaps, but his sites are really easy to follo...

Bracket website (LONG)

This site is an interesting view of the bracket world. http://www.bracketmatrix.com/ It is very fluid in that today there are 79 different predictors listed while a couple of days ago there were 96. But it seems to overcome any individual biases due to the number of opinions being used. Bolded schoo...

Two down. One to go.

Currently, 6 teams have a shot at second place. SDSU has a remaining game against 5 of them.

A win in Ft. Collins would be a major step for USU.

Upcoming schedule

Our next three games are against teams that currently have 4 conference losses. USU has 5.

Each of those teams (as well as Nevada - also with 5 losses) have a remaining game against SDSU.

The Aggies control their own destiny for no worse than a tie for 2nd place. We shall see.

Nit picking

Shouldn't nit-pick after a win perhaps, but can we somehow get the AD to ban promotions during a timeout called by the other team in response to an Aggie run? It may be subjective, and they may have already sold the ad space, but the CSU time outs at 7:41 and 5:53 in the second half were both called...

There was also a game here where Long Beach State had their coach ejected. That would have been Seth Greenberg - the talking head of ESPN fame now. He hated Logan and seemed very willing to jump on the "it was the crowd's fault" bandwagon after last year's Nevada and the Fire Extinguisher incident....

So I finally got around to reading the DN article on the game and it got me thinking. They reported that UF missed their first 14 shots and then 7 in a row down the stretch. So I wondered what the numbers were for the rest of the game- kind of reverse engineering the ‘if you ignore this part of the ...

This.
Any complaint about Miller’s shot selection last night is a statement that Smith is not handling him correctly. Miller is not shooting independently of the coach.

the team record for rebounds in a game is 82, so yes. it has happened. The amazing thing about that game (LMU 12-05-64) is that the final score was 96-69 for USU. Imagine 2 teams averaging more than 4 points per minute in addition to one team averaging more than 2 rebounds per minute . Strategy was...

Got over another hump last night

A lot of people have mentioned getting over a hump last night. P5, athletic team, major comeback. All true. It also represents the first time in the 40 years that I have followed USU b-ball that the team has started 6-0. We have been 5-0 four times and 5-1 each of those seasons. When I looked at the...

I went to the Nevada board to check out their reaction to the Davidson debacle. While there I looked into the USC thread where I found the following quote: “ The bad: The guard play vs. length of any sort. Fortunately, we won't face many, if any, more teams that have the length Utah or USC had.” It ...

Although this is the first time that USU and NC A&T have met on the court, it is not the first time an NC A&T team has played in the Spectrum. I may regret these words later, but I can agree with the statement that BYU looked good if it is qualified with but they aren't nearly as good as they look like they should be. It would be very hard to find a November game of the past that had a better student section than last night. Comparing November games to best games of the past is apples and oranges. No November game in the past was a top crowd game over the last 10~20 years. And if you want ranked teams to fill the...

I wonder if Utah will graduate a 4-year player during the rest of the current coach's tenure. They have an annual exodus and the team is mostly underclassmen as a result. Absolutely undocumented by me, but a friend told me that a longtime Ute fan associate of his claimed that last year 7 former Utes...

Focusing back on Bean, I noticed (on replay) that he came back into the game late in the first half and had three "and-ones" - making all the free throws - over the course of just over 3 minutes. Though it's hard to measure the impact, an "and-one" with a made FT is possibly better than a 3-pt shot ...

I just witnessed a defense that held the opposition to 23% from the field and 24% from the 3pt line. And they did it with the best defender in the MWC sitting on the bench. Things that I liked about Dorius are unrelated to the level of competition are:

3) He is mobile

Dorius had basket while fouled (can you call it an ‘and 1’ if he misses the FT?) where he rotated around for a soft lh bank shot. As he walked to the FT line I wondered if he was right or left handed. It was that smooth.

Interesting that Nevada's only scoring drives came against the most rested first string and some well-rested backups. Maybe we should hope for shorter TOP rather than longer.
