Re: Pope to Kentucky
If byu pulls off this Kevin Young hire that’s a great get for them. He was a finalist for the Nets job, is highly respected, and is considered to be on the fast track to an NBA head coaching job. Chris Burgess was very underwhelming. But Kevin Young is a different ballgame. I still dont get the lov...

Re: Eric Daniels
My son played for Daniels at UVU. Good coach and good buy but I guess I was looking for a little bigger splash and pedigree. Getting the right assistants is a huge part of being a successful head coach at the D1 level and that is becoming increasingly critical with the transfer portal and NIL. More ...

Re: Hillstead Transferring
Disappointing for sure. I am in the camp that Hillstead had the best upside of any QB we have right now. It would have been surprising if one of them didnt move on after spring ball but I was hoping it would not be Hillstead. We definitely need to find someone for next year instead of Barnes IMO.

Re: Pope to Kentucky
There is zero chance they can afford Madsen's buyout. Maybe had he not signed an extension after the season, but no way they can do it now. Scotty suggested Barrett Peery. If I were to guess, I'd guess he's the guy. Seems like the best of all the options I've heard. I know a donor there that could ...

Burgess is the best option and at this point of his career might be considered for openings at WAC or big sky schools.

If it is purely about the money, I dont think there is any chance he stays - and never was a chance. If wants a good payday and a known situation with a guarantee of minutes, we should have a shot.

The national championship comment actually makes me wonder if he will be a straight shooter. I get that he has to publicly recruit guys but he has no experience in this kind of conference and this team, without a few significant upgrades, does not compete for the MWC championship next year.

Last time we hired a rival's head coach (CSU) it turned out pretty well. I once heard SM also say once he told BYU no thanks. Pope has been sought after by P5 schools all but one year at BYU (last year). I have no idea what his current status is or what his motives are but if he wants money, NIL, and a P5 option he can have it.

We offered him triple what he was paid at Montana State, so he came to Logan. Why are we surprised he would change schools when a school provides him triple what we're paying him? I'm not mad at a coach saying they want to build up a program. Those are words that are informed by their current situa...

They all have agents who do the negotiating. I think our buyout conditions are consistent with other schools in our category. Would love to make it more but I have no interest in scaring off a coach we really want.

How much of the contract does Darius Brown get? He doesn't get that job without a handful of clutch shots from DB. I've been saying this for a while. He doesn't get that job without Downtown Daruis Brown. You are correct, and that's all the more reason why Sprinkle should take the generational mone...

Great has several "launch points" in his arsenal, he doesn't need to shoot over top of his defender. Using his size and long arms to keep the defender behind him to protect against the blocked shot and scooping the layup from underneath. Adrian Dantley (yeah, I'm dating myself) won NBA scoring titl...

My source, who I'm happy to disclose personally to anyone who actually knows me, says that UW now favors Kyle Smith, that Danny will still be targeted by other teams with openings, but there is a full court press on him to wait until next year when much better jobs potentially open. This would like...

Re: Sprinkle's (possible) replacements
I’m guessing Pope is severely underpaid by Big 12 standards, there is always the “calling” factor at YBU. I wonder if Pope is finally seeing the dollar signs though.. He is underpaid if you only count what he gets from BYU as an institution, but just like football, there is a lot more salary coming...

No replacement for Sprinkle. Mark Pope to Washington. I believe 22 has the best info available, but with this one I'm still in wait and see more. It does change my expectation from 1% of Danny staying to like 25% though. If Pope wants out, which is great news but very surprising, he will have suito...

I expect the only thing keeping Washington from announcing it already is that they don't want to get trashed by the media. Even if Sprinkle is sure he is leaving, being in a hurry makes no sense for him. Wait and see who all the suitors are first. As for Washington, I doubt the media would care at ...

Re: TV Programming Alert! Turn to CBS Sports
I am sure that coaches, like everyone, have times when they are distracted by the realities of life. That being said, I find the notion that coaches or players at this level check out to be absurd. They don't make it this far if they are not intensely competitive. They take great pride in winning an...

Huge blow to not have Mason. I love how this team always find a way to win but my enthusiasm has been tempered all year by our lack of depth. It can bite you in so many ways - fatigue, foul trouble, off night shooting, and obviously an injury. Mason is a guy who does whatever the situation calls for.

Honestly, he's probably just waiting after the season ends to make any decisions. He may stay, or he may not. But at the end of the season, he'll have time to evaluate all his options. And I think if a school like Washington wants to get something done sooner, they may have to go another direction....

There has never been an offseason like this in the history of NCAA BB. Offers will come to good players, and players who aren't getting PT will look for other opportunities. Coaches will need to rerecruit every kid in their program on top of flipping the portal to find success. Gone are the days of...
