Re: Bond's Tweets - Doesn't Seem Good
I get the players wanting Frank. They like him. Heck, I like him too. Results in the field are not there, though. He was dealt a pretty tough hand as interim, but he also has to own part of the poor defense in his role as DC. If the players really wanted him they should have showed up for more than ...

Re: USU Tier 4 Job
Which tier most accurately describes USU? Tier 3 jobs: Some resource or location limitations but enough to make bowl games consistently and challenge for conference titles; a restricted but decent recruiting pool of regional or national prospects; a rare New Year's Six appearance is the ceiling; not...

Re: SDSU's Vaunted Defense
SDSU usually has a very good D. I view this year's numbers recognizing that they have played Weber St, UCLA, and NMSU so far. I can't do advanced analytics, so I just looked at performance relative to how the opponents' O has performed in other games. Weber had 151 yards (0 points) against SDSU, had...

. Players' personal issues are not free game for anonymous forum posters. I think "personal issues" are going to be a topic of discussion to the extent they impact on the field performance, eligibility, locker room dynamics, recruiting, and the team in general. Is DT's decision to leave early a ref...

Re: A fan's coach
Coach Smith’s liquidated damages (buyout) is directly tied to his remaining contract amount. If he leaves at the end of this season, the buyout is over $2M. Dutcher at SDSU has a similar setup. In football, so does Bohl. Some coaches just have a set amount (Muss at Reno is $1M). I like the model we ...

That is our pseudo AD? What recent coaches have they placed? That apparently is what we need to focus on. Not what Hartwell, our name in AD only, has done. The firm name is Dewey Dikem and Howe. They placed Vic Koenning at Troy and Eric Musselman at Nevada. Per the Des News, "Hartwell said he’ll be...

One further note, this firm also assisted to fill the vacancy left by GA at Oregon St, as well as the AD spot vacated by Barnes at Pitt.

Purdue used this firm to hire Brohm. In light of the general tone of the Board lately, please see the following disclaimer: This is according to the internet and not first hand knowledge. I have no inside (or outside) sources, ties to the search firm, Jeff Brohm, Purdue, or the state of Indiana.

Re: List of coaching candidates
What about Troy’s HC? I know he has ties with our AD. Why would Troy's HC take a lateral move to USU? He make about the same as Wells did and his buyout is 3 million. I think we need someone LIKE GA, someone who understands Utah, understands the Poly Pipeline, understands how to recruit here. It is...

I agree that a "guilt trip" is not a great marketing approach. I don't have a problem with the tweet, though - just a little perspective. Re: Peery and Dooley in top 3
PSU's RPIs the 3 seasons prior to Peery becoming HC were 280, 268 and 225. He took over a dumpster fire. True. He made them better. But they still had an RPI of 171 which is still in the "bad" category. After only 1 year of coaching it's a huge risk to trust him with our program IMO. He had a lot o...

I spoke briefly with Elston in the summer of 2016. I was at a gym in Goodyear, AZ and saw a really tall kid wearing a USU basketball shirt. Re: Wells Job in "trouble" per Pete Thamel
All the other MW coaches being secure is not too unexpected. The programs that have struggled recently (SJSU, FSU, and Nevada) all have 1st year coaches. Davie and Bohl have resurrected struggling programs. Others have either improved (Hawaii), doing just enough (CSU back to back 7-6) or consistentl...

A couple of fun facts that jump out.
Air Force returns 105 starters. That is an experienced squad.
Boise allowed 0.718 rushing yards per game. Very stout.
Pretty good preview, actually. I always enjoy a write-up about the Aggies.

Nice info martigan. Thanks for providing. When our D has been good, it has usually had a DB that is very physical and that can cover. That will lead to a few PI calls, but it will also lead to incompletions, picks, and sacks.

So another BBall season for USU without the NCAA Tourney or NIT -- that makes 5 in a row. By my definition, if USU is not one of the Top 100 teams in the Country (68 + 32), it is a poor season. You know there's a problem when the usually homer Shawn Harrison decides to write a negative story about ...

If, at the beginning of the season, i was offered a bowl game, beating BYU and BSU, but no conference championship, I probably take that. While he doesn't have offers from P5 schools and traditional football powers, the fact that he has so many offers suggest that there are lots of coaches that think he can ball. Would not be surprised if a P5 school tries to steal him before signing day.

I think recruiting improves a little. Stew did not go out on the road recruiting. TD did and will continue to. TD the head coach will likely have a bigger impact during a home visit that TD the assistant did.

I was more than impressed with Hobbs in the first practice I saw. Hobbs is a crazy good athlete who I fully expect to lead this ...

Re: USU's SOS 2015
Replacing Hawaii, UNLV, and San Jose with SDSU, Fresno, and Nevada raises our 2015 schedule ranking considerably. Boise is likely at 87 because they get to play the weaker teams in the West division this year. Much less margin for error this year. Our guys need to play sharp every game and hopefully...
