Re: I'm not a football coach

The real question for me was why with 9 seconds left and a new set of downs thanks to the leveraging penalty, plus an extra 15 yards closer to the goal line, did we not try one more pass at the end zone. Seemed like we were in a good groove with the pass game during that stretch as well.

Well actually Anderson was 9/12 from the charity stripe tonight. That’s pretty good. He was actually 9/10 before missing his last two.
But those last two almost cost us the game!

Bean has been so good. His development over the summer is impressive. You can tell the guy put in some serious work. Can't wait until he can play without the mask. He's like a mix between Spencer Nelson and Brady Jardine.

Re: Knee jerk reactions after Fresno

I’m really glad Fresno watched zero film on how to slow down our passing game. Little to no press coverage all night is what the doctor ordered. I felt like we could’ve ran the ball a lot more to sustain drives and open up receivers. We need a better balance. And more runs outside the tackles.

Why on earth would they not have a few plays in the playbook for short yardage situations with jumbo packages? I remember Gary used to bring out DJ Tialiavea as a lead blocker.

Agreed.

I think the defense got spoiled by Woodward doing all the cooking, cleaning, and laundry around the apartment and now that he’s gone no one’s really sure how to do any of those things well.

Shelton particularly is struggling. Takes some awful angles and is Kerwynn slow.

2nd to last snap to position the ball for the kick Love took the snap from under center. Proof it can be done.

I think every bit as much as our big men under the basket it was our players moving their feet and relentlessly staying between their man and the basket that stifled Weber. The hustle and toughness that this coaching staff gets these players to play with is nothing short of amazing.

That was as impressive of a victory as I've seen since we took it to Paul George and Fresno years ago. Kuba looked very good, much more confident and moving well. Dorius still impressed me for a 3rd stringer.

Ineligible downfield is 3 yards beyond LOS.
And apparently the ref has a full 30 seconds after the touchdown to determine whether he's going to throw the flag.

I've felt he hasn't really been stepping into his throws like he could be capable of doing. Which is crazy because he can sling a ball like 60 yards flat-footed.

We aren't proven enough to pencil UNM in as a win. We aren't bad enough to just assume we would lose to Boise.

Let's play some football and JFW.
I'll assume safely that we will not only lose to Boise, but we will lose by 3 touchdowns.

Also the same team that beat Boise, USC, and USU. USU belongs on the Toledo and S. Florida side of the bracket here. But yes, that's my point. BYU has shown they have enough talent to beat some quality teams and they also have shown that they can be coached/prepared/motivated poorly enough to lose ...

Having listened to Riley Burt's insight of byu's program, and seeing the up and down nature of their teams for the past 4 years, I believe what I saw Saturday night was much more the Aggies making the Tigers look good than a sign the Sitake has magically turned things around in the past 3 weeks. How have we still not implemented some QB under center plays?!!!!

Didn’t Gary address this when he was hired? If it’s so dang hard for a D1 QB to develop the skill of the under center snap, why not have one of the back up QBs have a special package for short yardage so they can practice the snap all week? Huntley for Utah is as smart as toast but he can work out o...

Man, if players are saying that, then the coaches failed even worse than I thought. AF’s O remarkably simple. 5-6 staple run plays (“triple option” but it’s actually a pre-snap tendency-based double option)and every 10 plays or so they’ll throw a wrinkle in that isn’t on film to catch you by surpri...
