Re: NAR: Seattle and Grand Canyon are part of the WCC
GCU just wants more bodies who can take out student loans to write them checks. Learning is completely irrelevant. So they invest massive amounts of money in athletics hoping to raise their school's visibility and cause more prospective students to take out loans and write checks. ... it is hard to...

Re: NAR: Seattle and Grand Canyon are part of the WCC
As noted above, Seattle U is Jesuit, and culturally is nearly identical to the other Catholic schools in the WCC. It adds market value similar to what the other schools do in their large markets, and could eventually be decent in athletics. (They aren't bad in some other sports.) I didn't think it w...

For more baseball fun, watch the recent Jomboy breakdown of the Brewers-Rays brawl. Classic baseball fight. (Or watch almost any Jomboy, like the one when Jesse Winker challenged the entire Angels dugout to a duel.)

I can’t comprehend choosing UW over Kentucky or Louisville, but wish him the best! Depending on the weather when he made his visit, Seattle can be a very convincing choice over Louisville. Oh Seattle’s super nice, but UW’s basketball program is just a turd and an afterthought if you’re comparing to...

Re: SDSU getting more than 1 million dollars of NIL to play in tournament
It's a good way to create an even wider gap beaten the haves and have nots. Why mess around with these pre season tournaments that get a couple good teams and a bunch of mediocre? Don't run these through the NCAA. Hand pick and pay your invitees and sell broadcast rights to a TV network. With a lin...

Re: Isaac Davis to USU?
I think the above conversation is one more example of the ongoing confusion of who pays what in athletics and NIL. The only way your tithing money is going to NIL is if The Church itself is funding the collective. (It might be, I suppose, but seems far fetched to me.) There are going to be gray area...

Man, I totally get what everyone is complaining about. People who start new threads really need to work on their subject titles. I came into this thread thinking I would find out about Calhoun, and all of our new recruits. Instead, I was tricked and manipulated into readying about BYU's new head co...

I wish the NCAA or Congress would implement some kind of NIL salary cap. Even the playing field a bit. In professional sports, we have unions, minimum salaries, and salary caps (in most sports, looking at you, MLB, that's why your popularity is dwindling; we all know a team can buy a championship)....

Related to the convo but not the OP, my first BW tournament was 95 - Aggies rolled all the way to the final before losing to bottom ranked SJSU, on a desperation 3 by their center. Other than that, huge party the whole time and nobody in the band had a voice left by Sunday.

To answer above, yes, I hate Boise more than anyone else in the MWC. They are a very close third behind the Axis of Evil. (BYU-Utah) It's harder for me to hate SDSU, mostly because my daughter was accepted there and I kind of cheer for all the schools that she looked at seriously.

How significant is a location’s cost of living for a single dude making $3 million a year? Real estate is typically an appreciating asset. I hear you. Single or not, it still definitely matters. At least to some. Would you rather have $1 million annually to live in the Bay Area, or $500k and work/l...

Why is it that the moment someone has success here they immediately get targeted while our conference peers and other mid-major programs don’t? At least not that the same rate as us. Is the perception here really that low that people think “Oh $hit!! This dude could win in Logan? Gotta get him over...

Both of those tweets were worded vaguely enough to mean anything. I mean, in my head, Sprinkle has been a frontrunner for the UW job for months. Everyone here knows that Hopkins is cooked, and has only been kept around because after this season his buyout finally drops to $500k. (UW paid dearly to c...

Gonzaga won at Kentucky yesterday. They are in They are 1-5 in Q1 games and only have 2 Q1 wins. I think they need to pick up another Q1 win (by beating SMC or USF on the road) to feel comfortable. If they lose both games, they will be 1-7 in Q1 games and 2-1 in Q2 games. I have to think that's not...

Boise is what Portland was 20 years ago. Their problem is the city is infested with Boise State fans. And Portland is overrun with Ducks, which is almost as bad. But yeah, a big part of Boise really wants to be Portland. Another big part of Boise really wants to be full-on Idaho though, and they ar...
