Re: Current State of USU Basketball
I would rather have Great, I don't know much about the guy from Stetson. I just think it's weird that he isn't bringing anyone with him. Maybe it's because all of his best players were seniors? Perhaps the jump from Youngstown State and the Atlantic Sun Conference is too big going to Utah State and...

What’s the deal with Austin Hansen? He was Smiths assistant coach and has stuck around in the valley. Is he an option for an assistant coaching position?

Really interesting if Sprinkle takes no one with him. The only way anyone goes with him is if Darius Brown gets that RUMORED extra season of eligibility. How would Darius get another year of eligibility, what’s the pitch? He’s used his Covid year, and Med Red Shirt year and played 4 other years. He...

You don’t have to be at a big name school to make the NBA anymore. There are tons of NBA players that are not from the big schools. I would argue that if many of these players that are currently in the NBA had gone to a big school and didn’t get as much playing time or the development they got from ...

Fresno hiring a hs coach https://twitter.com/JonRothstein/status/1776692685027541255 What the hell. A 67 year old high school coach who hasn't coached in college since 2011. I know things are rough in Fresno, but this simply can not be the best candidate they could find. I wonder if there has been ...

Re: Coach Calhoun's Full Contract Details
Didn't they just recently up the number of assistant coaches from 3 to 5? In that case they almost have to increase the salary pool. In terms of salary per assistant it is actually a decrease 530,000/ 3 is 176,000 and now 750,000/5 is 150,000. But that is assuming that he actually hires 5 coaches a...

Karson took a pretty good beating by the CBS broadcasting team during the Purdue game. Hopefully he works hard and comes back with more polish and the game slows down for him. I’m glad he’s back but why would he leave in the first place? I doubt teams are lining up to sign him. I think you would be shocked at how highly other schools covet a lot of our players. It stings a little less knowing that Coach met with each player and that NIL was discussed with each of them. Or worse, Coach met and we don’t have the bag to even consider staying. Hopefully not, but a big man like Osobor will demand $300-500k likely. Have we ever figured out the whole “Are foreig...

Yeah his game isn’t the same as Greats and I could see them pairing together quite well. Also, Great could actually get a rest once in a while with some depth at the 4/5.
I like his outside game. Great needs to develop that shot like Ledee did. Next level.

I’ll be honest — I prefer a band of mercenaries that brings us NCAA tourney glory versus a team of dudes that stays four years and does not. Obviously a team that does both is ideal, but that’s just not the new reality. The sport is definitely different. I too liked the era where you see a guy like...

What other schools are losing their coaches this frequently? Among our peer institutions, we are an anomaly? I think there should be a non-compete clause in coaches contracts. If a commit has committed to a school, a leaving coach can not reach out to said recruit to get him to leave to new school or evenly openly ban the coach from accepting that player at the new school. This is business now as has been ...

Re: 8 on 5 is tough!
Don’t worry about Edey. He will get some baskets. Just play straight up and only go for the steal if he dribbles. On offense, attack Edey with Great in the post and guards need to attack Edey in the transition back. If Edey gets some fouls and goes out, we need every possession to go through Great, ...

Re: Zach Edey is a beast
Just watched the condensed game. If we get the same refs, it's going to be hard to get him into foul trouble. They let a LOT of physical play go without a call. No complaints, just an observation that it shouldn't be our primary/only strategy. I don’t think we will get calls on him once he is posti...

Re: Keys to Beating Purdue
I think we need to just attack the rim. Make Edey defend on every possession. Just go right at his chest. He'll get a lot of blocks, but he's bound to foul and tire over time. And I agree with others - push the temp in transition. Make him run the court. This was discussed by the announcers in thei...

Re: Zach Edey is a beast
Push the ball and Edey can't keep up. On misses, we need to attack Edey in transition before he is set. Get some fouls on him. Even try to be sneaky and dribble in front of him in transition and then stop and see if he runs you over. On picks and hedges, attack his hip. Pull out all the little blac...

Huge game for him. He got really aggressive in the 2nd half driving and finishing at the rim. I think that got him confident with his shot and he gave it to TCU. Really threw them off. They focused so much on Great and didn’t adjust to how the game was playing out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, hopefully all the pundits don’t focus on the MWC losing as double digit seeds and instead talk about how the SEC has lost as 3, 4, 6, 7, 8. Only the 2 seed has won with a 9 seed and 4 seed remaining.sam tingey wrote:As bad as the mwc has been, the sec has been way worse!

If we get MWC(west coast refs) we will know how they call games. I could see that being to our benefit. We don’t have a deep bench and we don’t want early fouls trying to figure out how the refs will call the game. Likes been said, Great drawing fouls and getting to the line helps us. It also could ...
