Re: Smith hire looking like a train wreck for the U

There are quite a few statements in this thread insinuating that only black players have “off court issues”. That is completely racist. It also seems to be coming from those who are strongly suggesting that others(Smith, Odom, USU, Cache Valley, etc.) are racist. Maybe they are projecting onto other...

Re: 13 = 13 SOLVED!!

Am I wrong for hoping it was Bairstow? I think you could make the argument for sure. The counterargument is that Bairstow has actually at least been good or healthy enough to get rotation minutes. The bumbling layup we all remember notwithstanding, my opinion remains Bairstow has the higher ceiling...

Is Muzamil Ameer Hamoda not playing next year?
It’s been reported he will be here.
I think the general thinking is he will redshirt. If he is too good to redshirt, all the better for us.

Re: Roster predictions

So with the 14=13 mystery solved we have a clearer roster now and I’ll take a stab. Jones (25), Ashworth (15) Eytle-Rock (25), Shulga (15) Miller (20), Bairstow (10), Thelissen (10) Bean (30), Horvath (10) Horvath (20), Dorius (10), Zapala (10) I think possibly 2 of Potter, Brenchley, and Hamoda re...

Re: Norbert Thelissen

Of course it matters how things play out on the floor but Smith recruited 5 of our top ten ranked players since 2000 so it’s not like he couldn’t get anyone to come here or that he was recruiting scrubs. Four remain on the team and it remains to be seen how their careers will end and the other one ...

I thought Doris was on academic scholarship? I'm probably wrong. The rumor was that Smith put Dorious on athletic scholly days before he left. I’m not sure if that commitment was honored by the new staff and if there is some formal process that must happen before one officially gets an athletic sch...

Or Dorious isn’t on scholarship.. Is this still a possibility? What’s the full process of becoming a scholarship player, transitioning from walk-on or other payment type? Is there an official signing period for that to happen? Has that happened? Maybe Dorious realized it would help the team by stayi...

Re: Roster predictions

WIth Thiellsen and Jones finalizing the roster I actually am super happy with how it worked out. We brought in some 3-4 year veteran guys in Rock and Horvath to steady the ship and give us the scoring we will absolutely need. We also brought in Jones who can be an impact guy immediately and still h...

On Sam Merrill’s Instagram story, there’s a shout out from Caleb Martin after last nights game. Sounds like they are buddies and talked about the battles they had in the MW. It was pretty cool. Looks like they traded and signed each other’s jerseys.

I for one am really glad he is back. Dorius? Really? I really liked what we got out of Dorius as a walk-on, but man, it kinda stinks Smith gave him a scholarship right before bailing. I would rather the new coach have decided whether he wanted to give that scholarship to Trevin or someone else. This isn’t to say Trevin didn’t earn the...

I blame Smith more for this. When you have already betrayed your former team by going to their rival, the least you can do is not gut their roster as well to add insult to injury. Smith is completely dead to me now. There should be a non-compete type clause in coaches contracts that when they leave...

Well say good bye to any of these transfers. We have no hope of bringing in any big transfer without a coach and it will take us a while to find someone. Throw in the possibility that Worster and our other up and coming players leave with Smith and we could be SJSU-esque next year. For any of those ...

I did forget about Potter. They say he can play the 2-5 positions but mostly 3-4 and that he can shoot from the outside. If he can transition quickly that would be great but I haven’t seen many guys come back from missions ready to play at top speed. We’ll see.

Should be interesting. Worster, Ashworth, Shulga should all have big improvements. Maybe we finally see McChesney and see what we have with him. Offense aside, it was on defense in the second half that killed us. We were getting blocks in the first half bc TT likes to go inside. That was our strength in the first half, then against Queta. We came out in the second half and our guards were over playing the drive and keeping the offensive play...

We have had 3 years of Queta and have not figured out how to do a pick and roll to Queta. We didn’t even post Queta up in this game. We didn’t drive and dish to Queta. On defense in the first half, we forced everything inside to Queta and we shut them down. In the second half we defended against the...

That’s been there numerous times. The defender is playing high towards the pain and leaving that open. A deep drop step will seal the defender off being that high.
