Re: What are we missing with Queta?
If Merrill gets a legit shot, he WILL find rotation minutes. Yes, the Cavs just acquired Strus who will theoretically play in front of him, but Sam is too good to keep off the floor. He is a better version of Strus. If it wasn't for the ankle injury, he'd already be in someone's rotation. Neemi...h...

Re: Ashworth Interview
Hard to blame him. We didn't do our job to take care of our last coach. If we don't fix our issues with this soon, it'll be worse in the future I’ll push back a little on this. I don’t think Odom was really worthy of an extension in the January timeframe in which I’ve heard he had gripes. We undera...

Re: Aggies in the NBA
Some G-League updates to distract from the chaos: Queta's season is over. Averaging 16.8 pts, 8.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.2 turnovers, 1.9 blocks and 0.9 steals, Neemi led Stockton to the best record in the G League, but they bowed out in the conference semifinals last night. He shot 68.3% from the...

So what I am most interested in are the real reasons he decided he needed to move that long ago...and apparently wasn't too concerned about where. Those reasons have been talked about plenty in this threads. To summarize: - A bit of a culture shock for a guy from the Southeast. His wife also didn't...

The coaching drama is only the beginning....... I've heard about some not so good transfer news coming down the pike. Imagine the worst case scenario and you may right. Wow. There was a post in one of the Odom threads that made me feel better about Ashworth staying no matter what but I gues...

He might be yanking us around but I see no evidence of it. If he has options coming that are jobs of interest, why wouldn't he wait? As for why he...

Fun Ashworth Stat
Ashworth is one of only three college basketball players this season to average at least 3 three pointers made and at least 4 assists per game. The other two are national media darlings Max Abmas and Jelly Walker who both averaged exactly 4 assists compared to Ashworth’s 4.5. They both shot under 40...

Yes, Zapala had perfect position for that rebound and stood flat footed while Arop just jumped over him and got the board. Big moment of the game. Zapala had one job and failed miserably at it. I blame Odom, not Zapala. Playing Zapala was too clever by half. Obviously, Odom was trying to protect Ak...

Credit to @SLB , although not a Lottery pick, he is going to have a chance. He’s such a Good playmaker, great passer, great shooter, and has a big frame for an NBA point guard. Can guard 1s and 2s. He’s young enough too. He will never sniff the NBA, but that doesn’t mean he is not good college play...

What's interesting is that the league is decidedly stronger this year, but no players listed anywhere that I've seen as potential draft prospects. No Sam, Queta, Flynn, McDaniel, Roddy etc. types. Probably a few that will get a training camp invite or some G League experience, but beyond that littl...

Hopefully the committee doesn’t pay too much attention to BPI, though the Aggies did jump from 60 to 49 after the Boise win. It has been an outlier metric all year but it looks a little better now. Have to admit the last sentence made me laugh. I tend to agree with him more than most, but I’m not su...

That’s because kenpom sees New Mexico as by far the toughest quarterfinal opponent.
I don’t know if his numbers factor in rest, but I’d rather play UNM on a back-to-back than a rested SJSU.

The NET ranking is not the RPI by a very, very long ways. The RPI could be gamed and was by the MVC in 2006 with 5 teams in the top 46. Think about that. Now, give me an example of a team with a NET ranking better than 30 not getting a bid and then we can talk. Once again, NET has been around for f...

They have been a blast to watch on offense all year but it’s been even better to see the Aggies step up on defense down the stretch. As many have said, that is the reason for this winning streak.

Re: Sam Moving Up
Unfortunately, Cleveland/Detroit conflicts with the Boise game, but Sam is quite likely to play tonight.
The Pistons are tanking hard and missing several players so the Cavs should blow them out. NBA garbage time can be tough to watch but it’s a good opportunity for Sam to get minutes.

Santa Clara and LMU were nice surprises too. On the other side of that spectrum, San Francisco had a disappointing season. I will die on the hill that it does not matter where SMU ends up. It's a bad loss that will hurt significantly whether their NET is 195 or 205. Assuming the Aggies end up as a bubble team, the committee will examine every single game on the profile. Let's say SMU ends up Q3. The committee is still g...

Great game and season from Ashworth. Consistently found ways to help the team even in the rare games where his shot wasn’t falling.
I said before the year I thought Ashworth could be “fringe all-conference.” I would like to formally apologize to Steven for including the word “fringe.”

Another interesting NET era profile is 2020-21 Drake, who made the first four. They had a much lower NET at 45. Their best win after a one point home victory against #10 Loyola Chicago was a road win at #97 Missouri State. They also had two bad losses like USU. They were competing against a differen...

In addition to the CSU/UNM wins at St Mary’s, Boise beat Texas A&M on a neutral court.
I think only UNLV won against a team who was ranked at the time—Dayton. They aren’t currently ranked of course.

This is just laughably wrong. Like I have said before, quads are just a quick and dirty way to get an overview of how well a team did against good competition. But anyone who thinks that a win against #30 Auburn is as valuable as a win against Alabama but a win against #31 Auburn is worth the same ...

Do you have a link for this? Because I'm pretty sure that the most recent iteration of NET is based on only two factors. One is basically win-loss record that is adjusted for opponent strength that gives bonuses for quality wins. The other is some composite Ken Pomeroy's offensive and defensive eff...

Re: Having projections of New Mexico in and us out
I just don’t understand the point of Net if you’re going to essentially ignore it Like yeah we are currently 0-4 vs q1, 3 of which were on the road, because the arbitrary cut off gives us with 2-3 wins right outside q1. But Net accounts for that…that’s what it’s for, imaginary and arbitrary cut off...

IMO the next two games are the key. It seems to me that this team is not built for the MWC tourney because we have so little depth. We always miss Rylan but the tourney will really accentuate that issue. Agreed. Plus, in a tournament setting, the depth issue is exacerbated by the offensive approach...
